Hi Ricky! Thanks for the info. Your jam is interesting, you already have a good technique. It's time to expand your vocabulary.

two more questions:

How many hours per day can you dedicate to guitar?
What do you know about theory?

Hello Gabriel , am retired so I pretty much stay home all day. Practicing time won't be a problem. As far as theory goes I know the basics like major minor pentatonic natural scales blues scales harmonic minor scales. Just enough to get me by. You hit the nail on the head When you said "expand your vocabulary". That is how I feel on my solos like I run out of ideas.

Yeah, that's the feeling that I got when I listened to your improvisation. I think that we should go for musical lessons that give you new licks and ideas that you can play over the backings. Once you learn the lessons, the idea is that you improvise over the backing, using some of the licks and slowly vary them. In this way, you make them yours.

I was thinking that you could start working on these lessons:

What do you think?

Hi Ricky! Great to know that you liked the lessons! smile.gif

Your backing track sounds really good, I think that you could create a full song from it! Have you thought it?

Glad you like the track, I could probably try to make a song out of it. I will give a shot , so in that way you could tell me what's good or not. In that way I could also expand my song writing skills.

wou! epic backing track!! I love when it opens with drum crash and arpeggios, it sounds very modern! For me, it seems to be the chorus for the song. Be sure that the next section to compose were different rhythmically, it can go faster, or maybe stop drums. I think that you will need a variant to make the overall song easy / funny to listen. However I'm still curious to know the melodies that you have in mind. Great stuff Ricky!

Hi Ricky. smile.gif

Congrats on your hard work! I think that there are cool ideas to continue working on them. My way to work this type of composition is to mark the weak and the strong sections. I quit the weak ones and keep the strong ones and then I work on the "wholes". I repeat this process many times until I get a the final song.

Here I give you some random comments that will help:

- Melodies are too repetitive, work on variations, different note values (rhythms).
- Work on short faster ideas that connect the melodies.
- Use different quantity of drive or effects for different sections and work on dynamics.

Check "Sahara" by Tony Mcalpine and see how he connects melodies. ( http://youtu.be/tD65uNthngs?t=6m43s ). For any reason your melodies remind me to him.

Great! One more thing:

- If you feel exhausted with the song. Give it some days and work on another one. Never push yourself to re-work a piece if you are tired of it, unless a big label is waiting that you finish your album! laugh.gif

Hi mate! Good job! It's great how much this tune evolved with some licks connecting ideas, you really understood what I was meaning. The next step would be to review the whole song and once again detect "weak" parts that should be changed or improved. Personally I don't like that note at 00:41 and I love how the melody explores at 1:31. I feel that some sections are still undefined, but the overall idea is getting clear, so keep on working!
