GMC Forum _ Concert Reviews _ Rush

Posted by: Smikey2006 Sep 13 2007, 12:47 PM

Hey GMC due to my rescent unactiveness ive decided to burst back in with a review on my latest viewing experience RUSH.

Its about 12am and i just got home from a rather chilly concert indoors in downtown London. The band lineup was as follows ( and this is as good as it gets)

RUSH

The progressive classic rock band had no one open for them dispite many rumours of pending artists to open. I thought this was a good thing. The show started almost right on the dot of 7:30pm with the song limelight. The rest of the evening followed like this.

Set 1:

Video Intro

01. Limelight
02. Digital Man
03. Entre Nous
04. Mission
05. Freewill
06. The Main Monkey Business
07. The Larger Bowl
08. Secret Touch
09. Circumstances
10. Between The Wheels
11. Dreamline

Intermission

Set 2:

Video Intro

12. Far Cry
13. Workin' Them Angels
14. Armor And Sword
15. Spindrift
16. The Way The Wind Blows
17. Subdivisions
18. Natural Science
19. Witch Hunt
20. MalNar
21. Drum Solo
22. Hope
23. Summertime Blues
24. The Spirit Of Radio
25. Tom Sawyer

Encore:

26. One Little Victory
27. A Passage to Bangkok
28. YYZ

It has to be one of the best concerts i have ever seen. The sound was almost perfect, with much more feeling than dream theater and the band having much better stage presence than dream theater as well. Plenty of loud music, crazy lights, Explosions and even a lazer show. Two screens were constantly either showing the band or videos which were hard to follow, Or controversal video clips advertising problems in the world. Rush also added their signature random appliances on stage.. I believed that at first they were some of the craziest bass amps i had ever seen. Later seeing the fact that they had 3 very large chicken ovens each cooking about 50 chickens and a chef would constantly wander on stage to maranade and check on the chicken. This would fill the whole venue with a heavenly scent smile.gif It was a very large Venue with all seating rather than any standing area. The venue was simply a hockey arena with the stage at 1 end. I would love to go into more detail but for now i am too tired and this will have to do. Overall a great show, great set, interesting videos and an especially impressive lazer show and explosions. Great rock concert smile.gif

Check out 'All the World's a Stage'. Great live album will give you a feel for what they are like in concert. I have seen them several times and have been a fan for longer than I would admit. Put it this way, I saw them in concert in 1980 for their Permanent Waves tour. They opened with 2112. I remember it like it was yesterday. Go out and buy 2112 and crank it on the best system you can get your hands on, you won't be disappointed.

Love Rush - I'm gutted I won't get to see them this tour. Looks like an interesting set list too. Alex Lifeson rarely gets the credit he deserves as a guitarist and composer.

I just picked up the DVD Rush in Rio. Amazing! Love that band. Can't believe my buddy had tickets and didn't call me.

did you see them in London Ontario or England? because i saw them in Ontario and it was a hell of a show ...prety amazing

I saw them for the 2nd stop of the tour in Mansfield, Ma. And It was one of the best Rush shows I have seen in years.
And since the new album is very Hemispheres like it was great to hear stuff they havent played live in 20 years.
My personal favorite is All the World's a Stage and 2112 for a studio LP.

It seems there are more Rush fans here than I thought when I asked Muris to do a lesson. Maybe you guys can see if he'll do another one on "2112" or Permanent Waves if he gets enough requests. biggrin.gif

Our good friend Resurrection is dying for those trademark suspended chords & gliding nuances filled with arpeggios and odd time sugnatures of the late 70's early 80's biggrin.gif

BTW what's up with the trash park video with Geddy eating chicken. "Wipe off your face and get out there and play" ...laugh.gif

Posted by: Smikey2006 Oct 7 2007, 04:37 AM

Saw it in london ontario, all the videos at the show were key.. geddy eatin chicken.. or the southpark skit before tom sawyer.. "I AM GEDDY LEE AND I CAN SING WHAT EVER THE HELL I WANT ( eric cartman) okay okay lets do it again and do it right this time(kyle)" then it bursts into the real Tom Sawyer.. great show smile.gif

|I saw them last night in Birmingham UK. I've been wanting to see them since the 70's and finally got there.

Only one word describes last night's concert.

AWESOME................................
