Valvetronix ad100vt, $500. I've played it with a hellraiser even, and it sounds great.

Alternatively there's the Ad100vt-xl, which is supposed to be the more "high-gain" version of the valvetronix line, which is a little more. I've never tried it though, but I can vouch that the other one can get plenty heavy. This one's new on the market I think.

Not a tube amp. Unless you also want to call my Zoom g9.2tt a tube amp.

At that price, if you live in the states, it is a no brainer. They don't put Celestion speakers in anymore (mine have those), but they also dropped the price a little.

Actually it does have tubes in it... even has to warm up before you can play it but the point is, it gets great sound. That one looks cool though.

only the preamp has tubes. they also make my Zoom sound better i think, it has two tubes in the preamp. However, not a true tube amp, nor the sound of one, the power module is solid state.

i am sure it sounds good. myself i would not get anything but a true tube amp, however, I am not saying that is sensible. just the way it is.

might be ok, provided you are happy with a Chinese amp. i think a better option than carvin in europe than the states, and i don't know where that guy is from. I just am darn sure Carvin is a much better option over Fender price wise. I would spend the extra hundred or so and get the Carvin. Good looking tweed cover, and made of real wood rather than particle board. And made in the US rather than Mexico. Also when I got mine, they were good about service, there was a rattle, and they shipped new preamp tubes (the bad ones were Chinese, they shipped American to replace). I buy Chinese products like everybody else. Such as my DVD player, because it was cheap, and when it breaks in the next year or two like my last one did, no biggie to replace.

And you get spring reverb with the Carvin, which can be nice.

Agreed,Carvin is awesome!!
Regarding to the fact that you're into Hard Rock/Metal stuff,Mesa-Boogie will probably fit the best.
But price...

not saying Chinese products are not high quality at times. I have a kitchen full of an insane number of Calphalon cooking pots, pans. Imagine the most insane amount of that you could, by a private individual. Now imagine more. Still more. Still more. Maybe getting close.

Over the past few years they moved most of their production to China, and I really don't think there was any lowering of quality.

I expect those amps are probably fine. However, with the Carvin prices, if you get the cheap $30 shipping, those are a good deal for the price, for a middle of the road amp. And they are solid, look good.

Yeah, I suppose the first thing lots of people do is change the Chinese tubes in their Valvekings into something better.

Good that Carvin was brought up. Not a common brand over here and I'm not familiar with the different models except for the Legacy.

Do you live in the States? If so, you need to check this out. I'm trying to save the money to buy this in a month. But I've only heard good things. And it's all tube.
