Grandpa's Cough Medicine

GCM was offered a direct audition with the producers of America's Got Talent. NBC contacted us, with no prodding on our part, to come audition for the show. No lines, no waiting with the clueless masses who don't know they suck. How tempting, a chance at national TV exposure for our little bluegrass band from Jacksonville. But we read the contract, in fact, we read it several times. The rights to our live performance, recordings, merchandise, publishing and touring are all things they would be requesting control of past a certain point on the program. These rights are the lifeblood of any successful artist, and we have decided signing them away to a giant corporation is not the way we want to find success. We have faith in our music, in our skill and in ourselves. We have decided participating in the exploitative, circus-like spectacle of America's Got Talent is not the road we want to travel, and we will do just fine without it. After much consideration, this is the most informed choice we can make. And frankly, we don't think we would be doing any great favors to music or art by acknowledging these kinds of popularity contests as worthwhile deciders of talent. We hope all our friends and fans will support us in this decision.

Jon Gomm

My manager Natasha just got a phone call. It kinda p*ssed her off. Here's her status update about it...

"To all those dreamers and wannabes who may somewhat foolishly believe in the integrity of shows like The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent: A producer from BGT just called me to ask if Jon Gomm would like to take part in the show. I happen to know for a fact that the open auditions took place months ago and there are anxious hopefuls all over the country waiting for their phones to ring to see if they've made it to the TV stage of the audition process. In the meantime, producers are calling musicians who have shown zero interest in appearing on the show to invite them to take part and groom them for victory. As a long time loather of all reality/talent shows I told them where to shove it in no uncertain terms. These programmes are exploitative bollocks. Don't believe the bullshit people. Simon Cowell can kiss my ass."

That's like this guy I know who was on American Idol this year.

I grew up at a summer camp with him. He was older than me and if I remember correctly was a counselor for a couple of the sessions that I attended.

He goes by the name Papa Peachez. Well he goes on American Idol and makes it through. The judges apparently loved him. He ended up leaving because they wanted rights to his songs. Personal songs that he wrote.

It's sad how fake these talent shows are.

This is so sad but it's how it also works here. Trust in yourself. Everything can be achieved with effort and hard work.

It's a proven fact that guitar faces have a bigger impact on tone than wood does.
