GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Do You Have Insurance On Your Guitars?

Posted by: korblitz May 18 2013, 12:51 PM

Cosmin recently lost his guitars. This has made me think if insuring my guitars it's a common practice or I'm just mad?

So, do you guys have an insurance on your gear? Guitars or amplifiers? If so, how much do you pay?

Everything in my room is insured, . ( as far as theft concerns ) As long as its in my room.
I know that company's offers insurance but I wouldn't know how that would work since I am attached to this guitar and I
wouldn't be happy with a replacement as much as this one. I don't feel that it is a money thing for me. However it would be nice to
get money if you'd lose your precious guitars.

Better install gps trackers in your guitar, I have seen people install chips in their tablets/smartphones, so I wouldn't know why not install em in guitars/cabs so you can track em back.

I dont have insurance on my guitars as I dont gig or take them out the house. My house contents are insured incase of a fire or anything like that. I should really take photos of everything in my room of high value for proof if anything did happen.

I always worry that my room will go on fire.So I try to unplug everything before I leave the house.Even then I still worry

I don't but that is a very good question!
I would love to get one, just for the piece of mind. I was thinking about it when I was gigging regularly and leaving gear in unprotected areas, but wasn't able to find a company that wound insure gear "on the road".

No, I don't but I think that I should have it. You should go for it if you find one that is good and affordable.

I do on two out of four guitars. My ESP LTD F50 and Ibanez RG8. My buddy thinks I'm throwing money away, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

A lot of guys use this ... http://www.musicins.com/. Covers your gear in home of course but more importantly - when you're not at home (gig, car, lost, etc). And it gives you 'replacement' value.

*If you're a musicians union member they too offer musical inst insurance.

**Your home owners policy will cover you 'at' home and may even have an option for when you're not if your gear is used for your livelihood. Something to check into - ?

I do too. Especially with keeping my amp away from my home. As I've mentioned, years ago my Marshall 1/2 stack was stolen along with most of my bands stuff. Of course everything was uninsured. Never again. And the cost is minimal. Mine is wrapped into my auto insurance policy and covers all my instruments, no matter where they are.
