I've noticed that a lot of very good guitarists have their pick angled when they're speedpicking. I however, have always kept my pick straight whilst speedpicking so my picking motions are smaller. I'm curious to know why some people have their pick at an angle, and if I should be doing it.
Cheers
Matt
Well, kristofer in ihis speedpicking vid says you need an angle. But I know that mr.Mustaine says that you need it as paralel to the strings as possible. But ehm, I think angles better!
Its a matter of "point of view" Maybe for some angle is good and others holding it strait, do whatever feels right. Cheers
yup, keeping your wrist straight so the pick stands paralel to the string is really tough:D
In general you can play whatever you feel comfortable and what gives you the best speed+precision. Most often it is slightly angled pick, but that isn't a strict rule of course.
The pick it should be at exactly 45.58 degrees for the ultimate tone
It really doesn't matter in my opinion, I use it at an angle, Muris doesn't, it is personal choice
As everyone have said, it's a personal choise =)
I use an angle.. About 20-30 degrees angle, since that's the way my fingers hold the pick while beeing most relaxed
Still the best way. Go to an asian restaurant. Steal some of those eating sticks. stick them in a block of wood with 10 nails in it. Trow it in the air 10 times and the 11th time you make sure it falls on the edge of a brick. Then youll be a speedpicking master.... doh
Here's how I see it: The more you have angle (up to 45 degrees) the easier speed picking becomes (You gain more accuracy and speed). But what greater angle in you have, the weaker voice you produce. So I think that you should keep your pick as straight as possible, cause when you are a pro like Muris, you can play very fast regardless of the angle of your pick. I'm not sure is this correct, but that's how I see it. But you can use the technic that feels most comfortable with you.
This message is not ment to hurt the feelings of anybody that keeps an angle in their pick.
EDIT: And don't forget that this is just my point of view.
