GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Fake Jems?

Posted by: EricGhart Nov 4 2008, 10:16 PM

Hey everyone, I've been seeing some fake Ibanez Jems on ebay, etc. and I was wondering with them being fake Chinese guitars how well they play. I mean I know for the price you pay for them they can't be that great but I was curious if anyone had any experience with one of these or any "fake" guitars from overseas. Thanks.

usually they are terrible.. they are built to look like the origianl.. not to play like it or sound like it.. usually the construction is of poor quality and the wirering is shabby.. i don't recommend ever getting one.

buying a counterfeit ibanez guitar is not only illegal, but it is plain stupid.

-the quality WILL suck. thats that...rough frets, bad paint....you might as well have a 3 year old make the guitar...

-for the price you can find something REAL and better

-you will be supporting counterfeit guitars

sorry so sound harsh, but counterfeit guitars are something i strongly disagree with.

It's very risky to buy this on ebay anyway smile.gif

I am not fan of buying a guitar online, without trying it. Every guitar has something different, even serial models. So you never know if you will really like what you get smile.gif

Thanks for the replies guys. I wasn't aware that those guitars are illegal, thanks for bringing that to my attention Marc_Maiden. What guitar would you guys compare most to a fake Jem? Just so I have an idea.

Perhaps SX guitars, they are making copies of almost everything.

you know SX guitars are actually pretty OK for their price...better alternative to squiers....I SX are strat copies, but not counterfeit....the main difference is the fact that counterfeits are trying to make people believe they are the real thing by stamping the headstock with the brands logo...copies are just guitars that "look" like another brands...like you could say ibanez gios are strat copies etc.

Well being fake Chinese guitars, how well can they play? wink.gif

And, as Dejan already said, buying guitar from eBay is out of the question for me, you never know until you try, so buying an original guitar is a risk, let alone a Chinese copy one. It would be a complete waste of money IMO mate.

Thanks Ivan, I agree buying online is hit or miss. I've seen guys get great deals and some guys get ripped off majorly.

I agree, all I wanted to say is that they don't have their own models
and it says SX so everything ok. wink.gif
