GMC Forum _ Introduce Yourself ! _ Boxing Gloves On

Posted by: albino Jan 26 2008, 09:38 AM

Hello from South Australia,
I've been playing guitar for years but I have a confession to make; I am a hack!! I blame the 70's when I abandoned music of technical artistry for punk, the Ramones, the Stooges, Joy Division, then new wave and goth then electronic synth music then shoegazer and other alternative music. I have been guitarist in two bands in the late 90's and I still can't play the thing!!
What this taste did for me was to tap into the energy and attitude but it left me disinterested in actually viewing the guitar as a serious musician [which I found boring at the time].
Well, now I am past being in bands but I have come to the conclusion that I must really start to learn how to play this absurd amalgamation of wood and wires with electricity surging through it. And its been great to go through some of the lessons here at GMC in the short time I've been signed on; At last I feel that I am ready to actually play things in a pure rock style. The hard part is unlearning years of bad playing habits.
I still love my old music collections and enjoy alternative music that doesn't showcase brilliant fret-work. Music is a collection of noises that affects you and that is that. But when I see someone with mastery over the guitar, I have to take my hat off to them and learn from them [I'm talking to you, instructors!!]. At the moment I sound and feel like I am playing with boxing gloves on but with practice I hope this will pass.
G'day to other members.
