There's always been continued interest in this one, but I dont believe we'll see a video on it any time soon, I dont think its Luciana's cup of tea tongue.gif

Here Kaneda gives a detailed explanation of how to use the 'vocal fry' method of going about things.

Another way of learning how to do it, is to close your mouth and hum, if you feel your lips moving then your doing the technique correctly, then you have to amplify the sound and add it to notes/words with your mouth open - I find the word "You" to be good use for practice, you can add angst to it and you should find the sound. Try to use your diaphram too, if you push the air up from your stomach area you will get a much stronger sound without overdoing it in your throught.

You SHOULD combine this with 'The Dump' this is essential, I will explain, try coughing, you will feel jerking around your lower body, this is a reaction to prevent scraping of the larynx in your throught, as it makes the larynx jump up a bit in its positioning, what you have to do is combine this feeling with your screaming, like you are trying to do a 'dump' - the name is as it sounds, always do it whilst screaming otherwise you will scrape the larynx, or 'your house'.

As Kaneda says however, if you practice this technique exclusively for long periods of time then you will find your normal singing range starting to develop a slightly raspy sound to it, which if your wanting cleans can be quite hard to put up with.

So, as well as practicing this technique you should always sing normally as well.

This style applies to several types of music, you'll find that Corey Taylor from Slipknot and Stone Sour uses it and that many thrash bands also use it to, for a good example look up Five Finger Death Punch and listen to the song Ashes. The style will also sit in your natural range, dont expect to sound like Chester Bonnington or Randy Blythe, because you wont, and its inherent that you develop your own style to suit yourself.

Also, if you feel anything like acid reflux or a raw throught whilst trying the above technique then you are not doing it correctly and I would advise you to stop immediatley, it wont hurt too much if you do it in five minute periods whilst being experimental, and I would still recommend you play with the positionings of your voice until it feels right, but do not try anything like this for an hour otherwise it will hurt like hell later! (Believe me I know) and its not good for your vocal wellbeing.

Another point of advice, if you plan on doing Pig Squeel styled vocals, do not use the inhale method! Apart from the fact that is inconsistant, it will play havoc with your throught, even if you do not realise it!

Edit: I have just figured out use of the false chords, go "Ahhhh" in a croaky voice - frog like, or attempt to do a marge simpson impersonation, now push the sound by adding more air onto the attack, you should get a very high pitched agressive screeching sound, think Pterodactyl, this SHOULD NOT vibrate in your throught at all, so if you put your hand up to your neck and feel vibrations in any way, you are doing it totally wrong and should stop.

Hope this helps and that Luciana can provide some comprehensive video evidence of how to do it some time.
