In this Quick Licks we strike an open string and then hammer on using two adjacent strings. This feels very odd at first. It's tricky on purpose to help train your hands to be able to play this that they don't think they can play. the shape on the left hand is a basic power chord. You are just hammering it on one note at a time instead of striking both strings at once.

Take 1 for scrutiny Sarge. I think I need more pinky power but that will take time to develop beyond the timescale of Quick Licks.

Success is not obtained overnight. It comes in instalments; you get a little bit today, a little bit tomorrow until the whole package is given out. The day you procrastinate, you lose that day's success.

Thats it!!!! it's a bit rough around the edges, but yes. That is the lick! You may notice that if feels very very awkward on the hand. The left hand in particular. We are striking an open string and then doing two hammer ons on adjacent strings. So we have string traverse with any pick action going on so it's really a great way to work on isolating the hands. Each hand is it's own world, in a manner of speaking. It's crucial that one be able to separate the hands so that each one can do it's own thing without being reliant on the other one. That's the purpose of a LOT of these drills. Trying to separate the hand I can see you are making really good progress in this area. This lick could use a bit of refinement so feel free to give it another go if you have the bandwidth. However, you've got this so it's plenty good enough to,.......

Slow and steady wins the Race Soldier!!! Being able to hammer on with a pinky, and not use a pick strike while keeping a solid mute is a LOT of bits to keep to on point. The good news is that you will keep getting better and better the more you do it. Add this lick, and or any of the ones with the dreaded hammer on / mute using the pinky. It will really make your led tracks pop!!

Nicely done!! This one didn't even make you break a sweat! You play it nice and smooth and then play it even faster and still smooth. It's worth trying to use the fourth finger and pinky on this one as they tend to feel a bit awkward at first, but it's not a requirement. Just a suggestion. You've clearly got the ability to play this one for as long and fast as you like. Well done!!! Great to see you looking well again!!!
You just..
LEVELED UP!!!
