GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ How Do I Change String Height?

Posted by: Nick325 Dec 23 2007, 02:43 AM

can anyone tell me? my strings seem kinda high.

string height depends on the height of the bridge, try to lower the bridge but be careful, if you lower it too much you'll get buzzing sound on frets smile.gif

Depending on what type of bridge you have, FR type, strat type (various ones of these too)

Most have two posts that you can adjust the height of the strings, as Dejan says if you lower too much then the strings will buzz on the frets, majority of strat bridges you adjust the height of the strings individually on the string saddles with a small hex (alan) key.

this is quite a good explanation and shows how to adjust different bridges http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/action.htm

hope that helps smile.gif

you must move the bridge in small increments. It's a trial and error process really. Be patient and move slowly until you find the sweet spot. If the buzzing continues, go to guitar shop and do a proper setup. Inexpensive instruments tend to have high action and poor setup adjustment abilities because they are not balanced very well. If you don't succeed with bringin your action down, try the pro guitar repair man.

When you do this, remember to check the intonation aswell.

u have to move the bridge slightly at a time, dont move it to fast or it could come off, that's what happened to me tongue.gif but that should work.
