Hi Guys hers,s the story I recently took my strat to the guitar tech for a full setup and to get the frets dressed.I phoned them up today to see if it was ready, the guy said the tech wasnt in today but the frets had been dressed. He then said the tech wanted to speak to me though about the truss rod,and now I worried at what he is going to tell me. Any ideas what it could be? if the truss rod was broken would he still have dressed the frets????

I think it is the best to wait and hear what's the problem, if any wink.gif

I would say the chances that he would have done work without authorization if you had damage like that, are near zero. To do so would be grossly irresponsible.

Maybe he just wants to know if you want it adjusted, or possibly there is some more minor issue. Sometimes they can be maxed out (can't adjust them more), but the neck is still ok.

Now I've talked with the tech and he will contact you about the details of a job gone wrong, as soon as he's collected himself.
He sent me a couple of pictures to illustrate how the truss rod is sticking out a little bit too far, just a fraction of an inch or so and it's nothing that can't be fixed... maybe.

See for yourself laugh.gif

Here's the truss rod zoomed. As you can see it's now open for adjustment also from behind. You'll pay extra for that feature wink.gif

Its a new 3 piece wizard neck that he`s designed for you, basically its in three pieces and you have to be a wizard to be able to play it biggrin.gif

On the positive side mate, I wouldnt worry till you`ve spoken with him.

Perhaps he just wants to know how you want it adjusted. A lot of shed guys want a straight neck, rather than the slight bow that is more traditional.

Something is really out of whack when I am the sensitive thoughtful guy around here.

I say don't worry, and hear what the guy has to say. He cannot damage your guitar so you're fine IMO.

Moaning about to commence spoke to the guitar tech end of last week he said the truss rod was broke but the guitar was working fine.Got back home tried to play it and basically it was rubbish still dead spots on the neck, so I ended up sending it back to the guy I bought it of telling him I was told the truss rod was broke, then I got this email from him

QUOTE
Craig, I got this neck back. Frankly there is nothing wrong with the truss rod, it is tightening and loosening just fine. Whoever has sanded the frets has made a serious mess of it. I am amazed at how badly the frets have been sanded. A fret is meant to be curved, smoothed and polished. These are flat and scored. He has also cut the nut far too deep. So much that he has actually sanded the wood behind the neck. This is not a professional that has done this but someone that works in a shop that thinks he knows what to do. This neck now needs to be refretted in places and have a new nut fitted.

I don’t know what to do but I really don’t feel that I should be left to repair the damage on this. There is no way in this world that I would have sent a neck out like this.

If it was a shop you need to speak to the boss. I can prepare you a report but I don’t know what to say or do. I am shocked and stunned.

To Be fair John(the guy I bought the neck of) said he would send me a new one if we cant get the shop to fix there mistake on the phone he said he had never seen a neck in that state in all his years as a luthier but thinks the shop will mess me around more, if they do he will sort me out with a new neck as long as i dont go there again which i wont mad.gif .

Whew... just whew.

That's terrible. Can you provide photos? I think with the information you got and if we can help too you could put all in writing and bring to the shop that broke it.
You trust that all he said was poorly done was infact bad job, or is the seller covering up?

Good luck mate, and don't be afraid of that guy, he practically destroyed your neck, you should sue him, and the store.
