GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ What Are You Listening To These Days?

Mates, here are my latest discoveries, which I want to share with you:

Periphery's latest EP, on which each band member wrote an entire song and the others learned it smile.gif Pretty darn nice!

These guys - Hacktivist - who combine djent with rap - I can't stop listening to this! They are coming to Romania in August!

I found this song with Dave Meniketti:

And this song which has a great guitar solo smile.gif

Periphery Clear is really nice biggrin.gif

Personally, I've been listening to this:

and for some reason, I've been strangely addicted to this song by The Dillinger Escape Plan.

Me too biggrin.gif, i have been trying to learn some of the songs from the album, but i always end up spacing out listening to the whole thing instead of actually practicing .... tongue.gif

But lately i have mainly listen to.

Devin Townsend and The Dillinger Escape Plan are by far a bunch of notoriously talented artists!!! Have you seen Dillinger live? biggrin.gif It's like a freak show!

Oh, there's these guys as well:

Lots of Argentinean folklore at Mate's Festival in Entre Rios providence.

Check my thread about it:

After a month of listening to only Blind Guardian aside from maybe 4 songs, I just spent a couple days listening to Ensiferum and Wintersun. I'm going through their albums trying to find the soft songs to tell my art teacher about. She doesn't like metal, but she likes folky stuff, even if there's a little metal in it.

I'm back to Alt Country, it feels more like home to me

Posted by: Monica Gheorghevici Feb 18 2014, 08:17 AM

I woke up this morning obsessed by this song smile.gif

Cuban music. El Manicero. I play a version of this, but not as cool as these guys.

http://grooveshark.com/#!/search/song?q=Tamayo%2C+Marco+El+manicero+(The+Peanut-Seller)
This is the Marco Tamayo version. I asked him for the music. He said he'll give it to me when he gets around to it. That was three years ago.

This is how most people from Latin America play it. For some reason they always use a beer bottle as a slide.

This is very nice! I always liked the Argentinian or Cuban side of guitar playing rather than the Brazillian one - it's somehow more dynamic and less syrupy if I can say it like that biggrin.gif

This:

I like the riffing, very Pantera like.

This one is finnish, not the best song on the album(imo) but only one I could find.

Posted by: waynedcoville Feb 18 2014, 01:42 PM

mostly stoner and doom metal with occasional viking rock mixed in

Posted by: bleez Feb 20 2014, 08:26 PM

Ive been listening to some older Paul Weller tracks recently, this one in particular is really cool -

Also going through a total Led Zep thing at the moment smile.gif

Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Feb 20 2014, 09:38 PM

Not that you wouldn't've expected it biggrin.gif

This is what I'm listening today while I surf our cool forum:

Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Feb 22 2014, 01:24 PM

I can't stop listening to this:

It's mind numbing how good these guys can sound....

Posted by: Jouve Feb 22 2014, 01:33 PM

I've been cleaning our country house last week and found some great nostalgic vinyl records.

And of course Adrenaline Mob

And yeah, of course Periphery. I like the direction they're going, some djenty post-rock-popl smile.gif

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Feb 22 2014, 03:07 PM

I'm starting the day with this one:

Posted by: Caelumamittendum Feb 22 2014, 04:24 PM

I've actually not been listening to much music lately, but been having American Dad running in the background instead. That's gotta change!

Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Feb 23 2014, 02:21 PM

Pick a letter - any letter and based on it, I will make a listening recommendation smile.gif

Oh, man, I had totally forgotten about them. They played in Denmark some years back as well, or maybe it was last year. I tried to lure my girlfriend to go with me, I remember, but she's more into quiet stuff like Donovan and such - or at it's wildest The Smiths or something like that. smile.gif

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Feb 23 2014, 08:39 PM

Good idea Cosmin. My choice is "G".

Posted by: Spock Feb 23 2014, 09:21 PM

Lately, I've been listening to Protest The Hero's 'Volition'. I just 'discovered' this band, and I must say, that it is pleasant to listen to

Cosmin, I know you like Disturbed. Do you listen to Device, with David Draiman on vocals?

I really dig this southern-based playing. I was always more to rock than metal smile.gif

But...there are exceptions as well. Currently I enjoy David Maxim Micic Bilo 3.0 because of the huge range of colors and emotions this album has. I usually keep distance from modern djent and similar playing but not all of those. I knew about David for some time but never really gave him a chance to convince me. Finally I made it and listened to his full latest album. I really like this palette of tones, ambient mood, heavy but wise playing with advanced harmony as well

Hmmmm... frankly I didn't like it THAT much, but I guess that if Disturbed are taking a break, David needs to do something in the mean time, right?
