Right, so I tried figuring it out for myself by using the incredible force of math!

This is the calculation I did for 80 bpm, sixteenth's notes, delay after one note(note 1, note 2, delay note 1, note 3, delay note 2, note 4, delay note 3, etc.)

So this is the calculation I did:
60 seconds/80 bpm = 0.75 second per beat
0.75*4=3 seconds per bar
it comes out that the delay should be an 8th note after I play the note, so 3/8=0.375ms delay time

So I tried it, but it doesn't sound right.. are my calculations wrong?

EDIT : Ok so I figured what's probalby wrong with my calculation and that is that it isn't every 8th note but every 3 16th notes.. but what's the right calculation? sad.gif

Here's what i get mate,

60 (seconds/minute) / 80 (bpm) = 0.75 s (quarter note duration)

0.75 / 4 (sixteenth note duration) * 3 = 0.5625 s

So delay time would be: 563 ms (or 562, whatever).

with feedback being : one repeat.

This will give you your note 1, note 2, delay note 1, note 3, delay note 2, note 4, delay note 3, etc ( I hope)

Does it work out okay?

Exactly!

This is the pattern

All notes in brackets are generated by the echo effect.
Deep's calculation is right. At full speed the delay should be set around 220ms.
Remember to play staccato as much as possible!!!!

/edit typo

Well, Nuno said different times that it's not a matter of speed, since you're playing eighted notes at circa 200 bpm.
The tricky part is to create this pattern and keep the tempo for the whole intro.

I played this one biggrin.gif
When I was I child I did not have any effects dry.gif so I started doubling each note huh.gif
Kind of good alternate picking exercise!! laugh.gif
Anyway, it didn't sound the same biggrin.gif

Yeah it's not that tricky, but it's a great party trick to throw on stage smile.gif I think I'll do it once I get the chance. already up to 150 bpm.. just 30 to go !

Oh and about keeping the tempo, you noticed he messed up the timing a bit around the middle part in the album version? even great musicians like him make mistakes sometimes smile.gif

I made a mp3 file from the CD.
I'm listening that part slowing down - 50% - with Windows Media Player.
It sounds pretty good to me.

When I hear it at 70-80% it seems that Nuno plays a little "after" the beat. Just a little.

Maybe those higher notes - and the resulting pattern - are the guilties! biggrin.gif Kind of illusion, maybe.
