Muris - I'm incredibly busy at the moment and can't give this the attention it so richly deserves - would someone else like to take my slot?

No hurry Andrew, take your time if you wish.
There are many more participants to post their work, maybe you're not gonna be the last one.
But if you really think this is out of your way regarding to occupations and job,no problem,
I'll find somebody to jumps in...

Thanks Andrew, more than great for 2nd take!!

Here's my effort, thrown into the ring, like so much pasta tossed in the general direction of a Mario game. Hopefully it will be decent enough!
With backing track :
in_style_of_exorcyze_backing.mp3 ( 611.43K )
: 362
Without backing track :
in_style_of_exorcyze.mp3 ( 611.43K )
: 169
Muris - The one without the backing starts at the spot where the backing began, in other words there is silence where the count-in / fill was. If you need it to start immediately after that little fill just let me know the BPM and I'll try and re-render it for you. =)
Posted by: muris Oct 4 2007, 12:56 PM
Thanks and no worries, the silence is just what I need for fast editing.
Well done tho!!

C'mon guys, don't tell me you're out of ideas
Posted by: chast Oct 8 2007, 03:08 AM
Hey Guys,
Anyone who wants to have my slot, can take it. I dont get something that fits to the backing track, I will try besides to get something (and post it in the Uploads forum than), but for this Collab, a guy of you can have my slot.
So, I would say, the first one takes it

Not a good take - sorry all.
Recorded it on a portable mp3 recorder so might not be in sync (couldn't listen to the backing track and record at same time .)
I've listened to it once and as much as I'd like to say its the dog's danglies it's just utter danglies. Oh well now you all know why I need to practice ..
Good for a laugh though .
Cheers,
Tony

It's 5th degree of D harmonic minor scale.
And since A is root here, not D,it's A Dominant Phrygian

Sorry I hadn't commented Iluha as I hadn't listened to it yet - was waiting for Muris to finalise it. Anyway I listened now and it's a nice take. Main thing is is that you sounded fine and as importantly it was in your style - you've nothing to worry about.
I always liked the comment from (if I remember rightly) Eddie V H about Allan Holdsworth - people who don't like it are non-musicians who don't understand it. I sort of console myself with that when people tell me (regularly, far too regularly) that I suck. They just don't understand me .
Cheers,
Tony
ps I've been told I suck so many times and by so many people that I've sort of giving up caring what others think most of the time.

My thoughts exactly, Tony. That's what makes me come back for more.
Hey, I bought a shirt the other day and this is what it says "Your Sofa Kingdom". Now, when I wear that shirt around no one has any clue what it really means. Everyone thinks it's a furniture store advert and they pay no attention to it. And that really is the intension. But read it quickly and you'll probably pick up on it.
. Makes a good party t-shirt. (don't wear around the kids though!)

, and next week is going to be the same story
. Im not sure when ill have time to record this, i dont want to delay this amazing project, so i think ill pass this time. If someone wants to take my spot, go ahead. Again, im really sorry. Ill do my best so that this doesent happen again

Posted by: Hemlok Oct 21 2007, 08:23 PM
Alright I'm IN! Can I take up until Thursday when I go on holidays? Because I don't really wanna put a half arsed effort in.
Solo's are something I am not used to, I have only tried this once before on Jason's collab so hopefully this will be an improvement but I don't think you could call it 'my style' because I still have heaps to learn and want to use many influences as possible in my playing.
Posted by: muris Oct 21 2007, 09:31 PM
Thursday is fine ,no worries
Posted by: Hemlok Oct 21 2007, 10:09 PM
I'm afraid I will have to submit as is because I have alot of stuff I want to get done before I go away. I know it is a bit out of key.. Ahh include this if you want, and deflamently give me some tips because I need to learn how to solo(have not tried a GMC solo lesson yet so any suggested link would be appreciated).
Regards,
Brent

Well,it is out of key here and there but not too much,
actually has its own trade mark.
Perhaps you should stick more to Am pentatonic or A minor scale.
And for the second part which is in E key,use A major scale, will fit nice.

Haha I had no idea it changed, I took a wild guess and used A major. Does not matter, if i get time i will try again if not I will let it be what it is.

Wouldn't worry Hemlock - mine had lots of passing tones and neighbours and so wasn't really 'in' key.
Just nod your head and rub your chin and mumble something about 'playing outside' if anyone says anything - as long as you look like you know what you mean most people will believe you
. Well it sometimes works for me
.

thanks Tony I will have to try that, the only audience i play to is a cat and on occasion a dog. They don't complain too much, unless they are hungry. But I believe in myself and that is the main thing, I know that was out of key but I like it haha I feel it was a big improvement from the last time I tried to record a solo

I had some trouble saving the no backing track version and for some reason now the file it fine except cut off in the last 10 or so seconds, so I need to re record it tomorow. But here it is for critiquing purposes. I kind of split it up to three sections. And I didn't know what to do with the ending. So I'll do something with that tomorrow, this is placeholder

Once again, I know the timing sucks (and not just that, btw), but metronome practicing will surely help me...

Thank you, and comments, critics and advices are more than welcome from anyone,
but please keep in mind (sorry Muris, I told you this again and again, but I'm saying this for whoever will listen) that I started 3 months ago!

Hi Muris, and thank you for the opportunity.
My mommy is really impressed!!!
Once again, I know the timing sucks (and not just that, btw), but metronome practicing will surely help me...
Your mixolydian lesson was of great help here, and you were right, this mode sounds really cool!
Thank you, and comments, critics and advices are more than welcome from anyone,
but please keep in mind (sorry Muris, I told you this again and again, but I'm saying this for whoever will listen) that I started 3 months ago!
Ok, here they are...
Muris_in_A.mp3 ( 467.66K )
: 192
Muris_in_A_without_BT.mp3 ( 467.66K )
: 1153 month's and playing like that is really good!

Muris, i gave it a shot and came up with this in the 2nd take, its not that awesome, but i dont think its that bad either.. , Since alot of people havent uploaded their stuff i thought i could get my place back , if not then ill wait for the next collab.
Here's my take...
Please comment on it, if its not good enough i can record another, you can be completely honest.
EDIT: Now that im listening to it again... i think its really mediocre and doesen't deserve to be in this collab, i know its a 2nd take improvisation, but i think i should work on something better. You dont have to include this take Muris, but id still like you to listen to it, just so i can get some improvisation tips. Ill record something again tomorrow, I promise.

You should convert it to mp3, so it wont be such huge files.
And it sounded like you went off key alot.
Posted by: Muris Dec 9 2007, 12:26 PM
Yeah,MP3 would be a lot better
Try to stick inside of A minor, minor pentatonic scale etc,
this IS too much out imho, tho I like free jazz

You have to download lame mp3 encoder then it will work
http://www.rarewares.org/mp3.php
Just download the lame bundle install it and you are ready to export your mp3
Posted by: JVM Dec 9 2007, 10:54 PM
You need this:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Lame_Encoder.htm
After installing that you should be able to export to MP3

Here's what my take. I tried to keep it as simple as possible , at first I was trying to play complicated things that I still can't do , but later I decided t play what make me comfortably. So here it is, I made a couple of mistakes , if there's still time I will make it cleaner if not use this one.

Ah, still ace.
By the way, how did you arrange to endorse Light Pick?
And with the Ernie Ball picks, do you endorse them aswell, or did you just have a load with your name on custom made?

Well, all endorsements usually come same way,you have to play a lot,be seen etc.
And these EB picks I got directly from them, after they saw me in Guitar Player July 2007.
That's theirs routine, sort of presents for spotlight in magazine.
