Got It... (new Guitar)

As I stated in the thread, I have never used EMG's before, nor active pick-ups and I have a few questions... I practice on a Marshal AVT275 amp and use a Marshall GV2 distortion peddle, has anyone any advice on how to get the best and crispest distortion that picks up pinches and sweeps well without the fuzz from stupidly high gain? Can I safely use the distortion peddle on an overdrive channel with an active pick up? I have my practice rig perfectly set up with my Seymours but the added gain from the EMG-81's is making it difficult for me to keep it 'clean and scream'... Yeah, its the Urban Camo I got, looks awesome and has a great vulgar modern look in comparison to my RR1 and KE2. ...As for the 18v mod, already whipped that in, awesome EMG added this versatility for phantom powering! The guitar sounds awesome, I'm just trying to get that clean metal crunch and scream without the fuzz from the overdrive. I think the problem is the EMG's not liking the pedal+overdrive channel as I have no problem achieving this on my 3 guitars with combinations of passive Duncans.
