ok well i think it would be a good idea to start off by listing the following so we can kinda see where we all are

i know im not the leader, but id like to know everyones playing style, favorite style of music, instruments they could possibly use to help record, and what you would like to get out of this band...that way...we can find something we all agree on and get it going!

so ill start:

I started off playing Metal (like most here on the forum) but i enjoy playing jazz, funk, R&B, and instrumental stuff...i like to stay very versatile...so id be fine doing what ever you guys would like to do

my favorite styles of music are Progressive rock/metal, and jazzz

unfortunately i am a one trick pony, i only play guitar at the moment smile.gif i do have cubase, but i have not downloaded any vst plugins such as drum kits and what not...so i guess you can rely on me for guitar only for now

I hope to make new friends here of course, and i really want to expand my versatility

I also thought i should mention that i do have a big guitar pro file with a lot of original riffs and progressions ive come up with over the past few months so id happily contribute that to the band

i look forward to hear from you guys and start this up!

Yo,

I've been playing from the age of 8, but got serious about this about 17 and started practicing properly for the last 2 years. Doing solid 4 hours a day metronome work, 6 days a week at the moment. Only able to play guitar, as this is the instrument I'm focusing on.

Favourite players are the likes of hendrix, eric johnson, paul gilbert etc.

I enjoy playing any style, which is why I'm here. I'm very into jazz fusion and shred at the moment, working on my alternate, legato and sweep picking.

Would like to maybe do something creative, like us writing a song and coming up with a cool guitar solo for it, but I'm open to do anything really as it'll all help build my playing skills.

I'm a professional studio engineer and audio specialist so I have done quite a lot of recording before. My home setup is a little basic as I have studio facilities at work, and just got more basic over the weekend as the PSU in my computer burnt out, but hopefully will have it running again soon, should at least be able to record a guitar part over a backing. The only software I have at home is free software such as reaper.

Well I play mostly rock and metal but I do play other styles as well. I like to listen to all styles except indie and hip hop. I am quite happy with most styles though for playing and listening to.

I have Reaper, Acoustica Beatcraft, and Fruity Loops for recording. I also play a bit of keyboard though I am no master and it is quite hard to record as I have to carry it up a flight of stairs, so I would prefer to keep all non guitar stuff on the computer, but I will play the keyboard if necessary. smile.gif

I think we should start with a cover but if everyone thinks there up to it I'm quite happy to do an original. Perhaps we could all meet up in the chat sometime to discuss what we want to do?

Yello!

I've been playing acoustic for some years, but I noticed that that part of my "career" was pretty... Bad... So I feel that I started over again on the basics when I got my first electric for christmas a year ago ^^

I play mostly metal, but I like all genres of guitar playing. So I'm up for anything, really.
Also, I'm playing around with FL Studio a lot, so I guess I could help with backing tracks if no one else are more experienced. I'm recording guitars with Reaper.

I've recently hurt my hand, though... It's been improving, but slowly.. And I shouldn't use it a lot. Since we've got a month to create something I'm sure it'll have healed and I'll have contributed my part smile.gif

Posted by: Marc_Maiden Jan 12 2009, 09:11 PM

seems like we all are mostly rock/metal so that would probably be the best place to start...maybe do a metaly fusiony thing?

Posted by: skennington Jan 13 2009, 04:47 AM

Hey guys,

I have talked with Outlaw (John) and he would like to get involved with the band. Matt, you had said earlier that since you were picked twice and if John wanted to step in as band leader then you were fine with it. He has expressed interest in doing so.

I see that so far you guys have agreed on a metal/rock band and believe me, John is all metal and I think you guys will enjoy working together. So that being said....Is this cool with you?

I picked an additional member (Marc_Maiden) And would like for you to stay in as well. smile.gif

Posted by: Matt23 Jan 13 2009, 11:08 AM

I think that's fine Skenny. Just to clarify would the band be like it is now but with Outlaw in it?

And yes Marc I think we should start off with a Rock/Metal type thing. What does everyone think about doing a cover or an original?

Yes Matt, we'll leave all you guys in together. Would you have a problem with him leading the band?

Great! I'll send John a message.

sweet...anyone up for 6 guitar harmonies biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

covers or originals i do not care! if anyone has any original ideas or songs laid out or parts of songs, id be happy to expand on that!

Posted by: Matt23 Jan 13 2009, 05:58 PM

Personally I think we should start with a cover.

Posted by: SonofDestiny Jan 13 2009, 08:33 PM

Aight boys!!!!

Wanna start with a metal song? I have a riff that I'm not going to use for anything anyway wink.gif

Posted by: Canis Jan 13 2009, 11:15 PM

Matt had some Black Sabbath suggestions to get us going in the chat earlier, like Crazy Train? And Bogdan suggested Paranoid, if I remember correctly?

Posted by: Outlaw2112 Jan 13 2009, 11:44 PM

Hey whats up?

Im john aka outlaw2112 and im looking forward to being apart of this vb. I was thinking about doing a cover first.. Just so everyone can see how this thing is gonna happen.

How about a metallica song to start with? Something like battery that has a clean start and then some heavy fast riffs..

I was thinking metallica cause they have 2 guitars and old metallica rocks

Also what does everyone play?

Drums, bass, or anyone sing? I know everyone plays guitar

Posted by: Matt23 Jan 14 2009, 08:53 AM

I think maybe something easier than old school metallica would be good for a first one but if everyone thinks they're up for it I'm quite happy with that. Like Canis says I think Black Sabbath stuff could be cool. smile.gif My only other suggestion is Cemetery Gates by Pantera.

Posted by: AdamB Jan 14 2009, 09:28 AM

I'll try my hand at playing pretty much anything, so I'm easy on a cover or original. Something I like doing is taking covers and then doing my own versions, like doing johnny b goode in a metal style with shred solos etc. which might be quite fun as 6 people should be able to come up with some interesting ideas.

Im down for whatever, but this is the intermediate band not the beginner... If some song comes up that is hard for you to get down then practice it... This also can be a learning experience to get better, and thats why we are all here is to get better... but everyone list 2 songs they want to do and ill post a poll to vote on them...

Fair enough, I put down Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne and Cemetery Gates by Pantera. smile.gif

Posted by: Marc_Maiden Jan 14 2009, 03:46 PM

or....iron maiden tunes biggrin.gif

but i dont mind doing either of those

Posted by: SonofDestiny Jan 14 2009, 04:32 PM

Ehm. I kind of feel out of place now. I absolutely hate Metallica and Iron Maiden. Does it really have to be the standard metal? If that's the case I wouldn't mind doing Domination by Pantera. Don't count me in if I have to practise Metallica or Iron Maiden though. I simply don't have time to waste on music I don't like smile.gif

hmmmm you dont like metallica or maiden.... what bands do you like?

Posted by: Marc_Maiden Jan 15 2009, 03:34 AM

i honestly dont like metallica...but i love maiden smile.gif

what dont you like about maiden though...they are both almost at opposite ends of the spectrum ...... metallica is more on the heavier side, and maiden is more on the progressive side..

Posted by: Outlaw2112 Jan 15 2009, 01:02 PM

Lets get this thing rollin... everyone list 2 songs they want to cover and ill post a poll, the song with the most votes wins...

Posted by: Outlaw2112 Jan 16 2009, 12:57 AM

lets start this thing...

post 2 songs you would like to cover

also post what instruments you play?

Posted by: Canis Jan 16 2009, 07:52 AM

I'm sorry to say that I might have to say pass on this months VB... I'm having some serious wrist problems and shouldn't be using them at all, something I've been stupid enough to have done the last few days..

Thats cool.. heal up, maybe read on some theory while you heal.

you can still participate if you want... you can mix the song together

Posted by: Marc_Maiden Jan 16 2009, 03:41 PM

lets see...for my 2 songs....

hallowed be thy name- iron maiden

dance of death- iron maiden

Guitar and keyboard but I'd rather not have to record keyboard, though I will if necessary.

Posted by: Outlaw2112 Jan 17 2009, 12:44 AM

slash 48 are you going to participate?

Im down for whatever...

Posted by: Marc_Maiden Jan 17 2009, 01:23 AM

i have a roland GR 20 coming in the mail sometime next week, so i can cover keyboard stuff (nothing too fancy) just stuff i can do on my guitar

Posted by: Outlaw2112 Jan 17 2009, 01:29 AM

I was gonna pick 2 from metallica, but ill choose 2 from pantera instead since a few people arent into metallica..

I choose cemetery gates and Freakin hostil...You guys know the song I'm talking about.. biggrin.gif

Edited for language/skennington

Posted by: SonofDestiny Jan 18 2009, 06:58 PM

Guys, I'm quitting the band. I don't think this is going to work out musically. Sorry!

Have a good time together smile.gif

Posted by: skennington Jan 18 2009, 09:24 PM

So SoD and Canis is out? What about AdamB? If this is the case, I will pm the other guys that were in the pool and see if they want in. Stick with your original idea for a cover though.. smile.gif

Posted by: Outlaw2112 Jan 18 2009, 11:21 PM

Heres a backing track for cemetery gates...

who wants to do what?

I would like to do the rhythm with someone else both the acoustic and electric riffs... does anyone know the solo and what about singing?

Posted by: Marc_Maiden Jan 19 2009, 04:19 AM

cant sing...i have to learn the solo...and i dont have an acoustic at the moment to record with unless you want me to use the poopy toneport acoustic simulator

i can learn the lead, but give me a night or two because i work 40 hours a week sad.gif

and i also have 3 collabs to record, and 1 video collab

No hurries, i work 50 hours a week and have a 7 year old..

Ill use a pod x3 tone for the acoustic part, and i already know all the rhythm parts both electric and acoustic... I wanted to record 2 rhythm guitars together for a heavier sound.. so who ever wants to record another rhythm section let me know

If you want to learn the lead that would be cool, doesnt sound too difficult

take your time

Posted by: Matt23 Jan 19 2009, 04:28 PM

I know the distorted rhythm parts and I do have an acoustic but only a crappy headest mic to record it with. You'd probably be best off with an electric with an acousitc sim. I can't sing but i might be able to learn the solo. I'll certainly give it a go. smile.gif

Edit: Double Post

Posted by: Outlaw2112 Jan 20 2009, 07:13 PM

Im searching for a nice acoustic tone to use... Ive recorded a couple of takes with different tones but im not happy with the tone.. still lookin for the right one

Posted by: Marc_Maiden Jan 23 2009, 07:22 AM

i apollogize in advanced for not having anything done yet.. broke a string on my guitar, and sent it in to the shop for a set up...i might not get it back for a week !

Looks like me and you are doing the rhythm together, ill do the clean parts and the distorted parts we can do together.. then you can do one of the solos, and marc will do the other ones.. Still need someone to do the vocals

I guess we could use guitar pro can make the backing track off of that

Well I have Acoustia Beatcraft so I could get the drums a bit better than GP, and I could do bass with Fruity Loops.

You export the bass track as midi from the GP file then import it into fruity loops. You then put a bass instrument onto the midi track and export it as mp3.

why not just record the bass track with audacity straight from guitarpro?

Would that use the bass sound from GP? I don't use GP so I don't know how good it's sounds are but if they are just midi fruity loops sounds better.

Well i still check this forum but it seems me and Outlaw are the only ones, and I don't know what i should be doing. If the band does start again im still willing to go along with it.

Posted by: slash48 Mar 1 2009, 05:23 PM

Oh guys I'm really sorry. I didn't realize we had our own topic already. I be happy to join your band but I still need to get down recording as I usually just jam with people. I think I'll skip this month to focus on recording. I'm a beginner-intermediate guitarist who likes playing hard rock and metal. I'm best with lead but I will be willing to play rhythm too. I love black sabbath and iron maiden. smile.gif

Posted by: Marc_Maiden Apr 20 2009, 08:26 PM

maybe one of these nights we could all meet on some IM with webcames and microphones and just jam

Posted by: Marc_Maiden May 4 2009, 04:53 PM

well recently i have become very good at making backing tracks with all the parts!

i have many a song we can do, lotso f original stuff, but its up to you, i know a lot of you have been busy since i hardly see any of you any more on the forums,

but let me know!
