I saw Al a few nights ago here in Las Vegas and I have to say, his grasp of the instrument is almost unmatched. If any of you have the chance to see him I highly recommend it. Even if you're not into Jazz the experience is, if nothing else, inspiring. I went home and tore right into a 6 hour practice session that went on well into the morning hours.

Some people reckon he's the "spiritual father" of shred, although he seems to distance himself from that form of playing in interviews, etc.

Saw him many years back with McLaughlin - have to say it was an awesome gig. One of those times it's nice being old (enough to have seen it wink.gif ). He is without doubt a great player and like Resurrection says despite being a very fast picker sets far more store on other aspects of his playing.

If I had to recommend one of his albums I'd say all of them - they're all great - ok maybe at a push Elegant Gypsy.

Cheers,
Tony

Hey I studied Al di Meola a bit...I really love Elegant Gypsy...Great piece of work...usually I don't like Jazz but the Jazzrock, Flamenco fusion is wonderful on this album...also got splendido hotel now, but I don't like it approximately like Elegant Gypsy...so I would like to ask you guys for any other Al album suggestions ?!!

Al is touring right now with his first band, Return to Forever. This is the first time they've been together in a long time. RTF is one of the best fusion bands there is.
