Lets make the deadline : 29th March

For those who weren't here when we started the three level challenges - the winner of each category will become a CHALLENGE STAR and will get this title under his/her avatar! biggrin.gif More instructions http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=20124.

I don't want to be "rude", but the beginner lesson choice was already made, when the challenges were up for the first time. If I remember correctly nobody uploaded a video, just me and OC uploaded mp3 files with our takes. Still don't know if choosing a different lesson wouldn't be more appropriate:P

Also, can I enter the competition if there is already my take on the lesson in the upload section ( so it is well known that I learned this lesson some time ago, I think that wouldn't be fair to people who would start to learn the lesson from now, ). So I would have to give a try to the intermediate on.

Posted by: Chris Evans Mar 9 2009, 11:30 PM

its ok your absolutly right, problem is there arnt too many level 2 lessons available and from Carlos this is the only one sad.gif

however, a perfect oppotunity if you`ve already learnt this one from last time to brush it up and get it perfect.

thank you though, it wernt being rude smile.gif

Nice lessons, I guess there's something there for everyone!, I'll try to find some time to enter this time around smile.gif

School work is wayyyy overrated wink.gif

I think I might give the beginner one a shot.

Posted by: Crazy_Diamond Mar 11 2009, 02:18 AM

I really want to try this competition. I'm going to work on it pretty soon.

I hope I can make the intermediate level.

I also have a pile of work in school so I my guitar practice is limited sleep.gif

I have never seen the Rock Solo In Bb Major lesson you are using in the http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guitar/rock-solo-in-bb-major/. Thanks for using it so I did not totally miss out. I really like it and think it's doable.

Posted by: Boson Mar 11 2009, 07:21 AM

smile.gif Yes at last one I think I can have ago at1 Count me in Chris at beginner level. Might even see if I can stretch to the intermediate if I have time.

Hey everyone, heres my entry...

Haven't done a competition since December so i figured i should do one. Did the intermediate lesson this time as well, may end up switching it out for another take eventually...it was fun though and i threw in a few little differences in there including some accidental timing differences im sure...

Also, it was dark so i attempted to use iMovie to brighten it...but that made all the background and quality suck...o well you can see the guitar and i figured that was more important neways

BTW: anyone know what the initial chord is??

Good luck everyone!

loved the Malmsteen lesson so much that I thought I`d have a crack myself, not to go in the vote, mine is just to join in a little smile.gif

Notice the terrible bad habit of NOT using my pinky in the second fast part!! I can play this with my pinky at 120bpm, and I`m working on building it up, but I could play it with the three so hey smile.gif

Very nice take, SMELLS! smile.gif There was one or another wrong note but at that speed it is acceptable! laugh.gif I´d also suggest a more aggressive vibrato on the last note.

well, I actually have a small issue with the guitar setup slightly, I need to mess around with it, its normally pretty good, but my wife has turned the heating up to ridiculous levels and its definatly changed my guitar, when I added too much vibrato it chokes out on a couple of the higher frets, so I need to mess with it, if I was entering this as a proper entry then I`d make sure it was perfect, but for fun, and the odd bum note, I`ll live with it laugh.gif

Why ever not?! That was an awesome take biggrin.gif

EDIT: Just noticed your axe. Is that an RG1570 in Mirage Red with Seymour Duncans?

Posted by: Ctodd Mar 17 2009, 01:00 AM

Do we need to make our own backing track?

or can we use the one from the lesson?

and....

If I am going to be recording directly, how should I get the backing track in the lesson?

questions, questions, questions I know tongue.gif

Use one from lesson, i think if you ask Carlos he will give the file to you

Posted by: Ctodd Mar 17 2009, 01:13 AM

ok I think I found I way I can do it directly... but also I am beginning to notice that I think there is an error in the tab for video 5

http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guitar/melodic-solo-in-gm/

should

|----------20--18--17------|
|----------------------18--|
|--------------------------|
|--------------------------|
|--------------------------|
|--------------------------|

|--17------------------------------|--------------------||
|------18------18----------18------|--------------------||
|----------17------17--15------15--|--14~---------------||
|----------------------------------|--------------------||
|----------------------------------|--------------------||
|----------------------------------|--------------------||

be changed to

|----------20--18--17--18--17----|
|----------------------------18|
|------------------------------|
|------------------------------|
|------------------------------|
|------------------------------|

|--17------------------------------|--------------------||

|----------17------17--15------15--|--14~---------------||

I am still a beginner so I am not very confident in this, but to me it does sound at least more correct

It sounds ok either way. I don't think it really matters if you follow the tab as it is posted. You should make changes if you think it sounds better.

Two truly awesome takes there, well played guys smile.gif

Posted by: ZakkWylde Mar 18 2009, 06:31 PM

Ok guys this id the first time that I recorded myself playing guitar in all my 2 1/2 years of guitar playing! This is my first attempt on the advanced challenge and I have quite a few mistakes in there but I will post a better take when I get that string-skipping alternate picking lick down! (my biggest weakness -.-)

Posted by: Fran Mar 18 2009, 07:35 PM

Nice take there Zakk & cool V wink.gif

Posted by: Artemus Mar 19 2009, 02:27 AM

Well here's my first attempt.
It's not my best take but it'll do for now I guess. If I have time I'll update it but for now it'll do I guess.
I donned my best pirate shirt in homage to the frilly-lace-wearing Malmsteen and in the hope it may distract you from some of the mistakes I make.. tongue.gif
Video quality ain't great either but it's the best I can do until I get myself a decent cam

Posted by: Chris Evans Mar 19 2009, 10:28 AM

great takes guys, keep em comin smile.gif

Posted by: Marek Rojewski Mar 25 2009, 12:06 PM

My take on intermediate one. I am not 100% happy with it, but don't know if I will have enough time to record a better one.

Is there a way to cut borders of the video in some program? I would like to them smaller, not to show my face:D I can insert one image to the video, but this time I had to put it on the right, to hide my mother walking, leaving my face visible. And I am not really into playing with a mask;)

Try Sony Vegas Movie Studio, it has lots of cropping options.

I really really tried to get even a decent take on the intermediate lesson. Alot. Even at 85% there was just too many missed notes and sting noise in the last half. I will keep working on it, but I don't know if my older fingers will ever move like that. ;-)
So here is my beginner entry which is all I can do this time.

And I finally figured out the trick to embed a vid. I felt like an idiot.

Hi everyone smile.gif

This is my entry for the march challenge, the intermediate one.
I am new to GMC so I'm sure this video is not 100% perfect, but I think it is fun to participate anyway...

Also the sound wasn't absolutely perfect , but It's the best thing I could figure out.

Best of luck to everyone else competing cool.gif
