The Shadow Hills is certainly a very good comp but I wouldn't say it's the ultimate mastering compressor. In my opinion there isn't an ultimate comp for mastering as you end up needing several for different purposes and what you use depends on the audio, what you are trying to achieve and what you like. Good hardware mastering comps come from the following manufacturers and they vary in price from about $3000 up to $12000 (the Elysia Alpha):
Shadow Hills, Cranesong Elysia GML Maselec API Great River Millenia Manley Gyratek and a few others. We do have some plug ins by the way but we don't use emulations but I might try the Shadow Hills at some point though . -------------------- Get your music professionally mastered by anl AES registered Mastering Engineer.
