Hi GMC
I learn sweeping past few months. I worked a few sequences found on youtube. Currently I train with the Lian Gerbino's lesson I kept the standard tuning... I made a take to see my faults and as you see it's not very nice. I must work to keep the beat and relax my wrist. Do you have any tips to improve my technique , maybe you know an easy lesson to work ? This post has been edited by MisterM: Mar 30 2015, 04:32 PM |

That nice pushing and cutting through the strings. It looks like you have mini speed bumps. That could help, also maybe go a bit higher in speed and just work the picking motion, without fretting anything. -------------------- Guitars:

Cosmin posted a video response a while ago for a member about sweeps and demonstrated a 'simple' exercise to try. I bookmarked it so I could refer back to it. I think you might also find it useful -
the original thread is here a few instructors also posted suggestions so it's worth a read if you have not seen it. -------------------- You say 'minor pentatonic ' like it's a bad thing |

Hi MisterM! I think that your sweep picking technique looks promising. Just one tweak, be sure that you do the motion as an unique whole sweep, don't feel it as picking each string, it must be a smooth sweep. You do it most of the times, but sometimes you don't so please have it in mind.
Practice is the key here. Try to practice an learn the more sweep picking etudes you can, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 strings sweeps. Each one will help the others. -------------------- My lessons

Thx Gab
I started sweeping last year. I worked some sequences of 3 strings very slowly. This technique is very annoying and I have not been consistent. Today I 'm serious , I'm working this lesson for months. My speed allows me to reach 50% of beat. but it is not smooth The sequences are 2,3,4,5 strings ... Step 3 is hard for me. It's 3 string séquence. When I play all the steps , it is 3, which is the hardest. What do you think about this lesson ? Shoul I give up ? Should I continue ? Edit : Cosmin's video is very interesting, (thx bleez for link) I work sequence 3 string picking right hand only then right and left... This post has been edited by MisterM: Apr 2 2015, 09:20 AM |

Based on my experience, the best is to play different things not only one etude so I really recommend you to try other lessons based on this technique. You can check my Yngwie Malmsteen style lessons that cover different types of sweeps and I feel that are more natural than the ones played by Muris in the lesson.

Hi Gab, You are very speed Ok I'll work others things hehehe yeah, but I remember myself working on this type of etudes when I was just a sweep picking beginner and trust me that with every day practice it worked faster that I would imagine. Sweep Picking is not a difficult technique because it's natural. I think that once our mind get used to it we can make it fly. -------------------- My lessons

Hi gab,
I made a sweeping exercice take I found the sequences on the Nicolas Roman's website Usually, I start to 60 BPM then 63/66/69 etc.... I isolate séquence then I play all After playing the video , I hear that I 'm not always on the beat , I'll do it more often to understand my mistakes sequences that require breaking the finger are new for me, I'm more comfortable on others What do you think about my technical ? Hi MisterM. Yeah, I also note that the triplets are not tight on this take. As you didn't now it while you were practicing it, I recommend you to put all your focus on timing during the next practice session to see if the issue is fixed.
I think that the technique is right on this video. Maybe your right hand wrist rotation could be smaller when you move finger 1 from third to first string, but just that. An also be careful with the thumb of your right hand which should be put with the tip closer to the tip of your index finger to have more control of your picking. -------------------- My lessons

Hi mate! Good job with this! It's true that triplets could be tighter, but they are really close. Please remember what I commented about your right hand thumb, I think that this can become a problem in the near future.
