GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ How Do You Guys Like The New Forum Layout

Posted by: skennington Jun 4 2008, 02:13 AM

Personaly i'm still getting used to it. I think the new layout is better, although I think it could still use some tweeking. Any thoughts, or advice for the staff? It is the members and staff/instructors forum so let's here your opinions. Just some feedback for the guys to make GMC that much better!

I'll start. I think Theory should be a category within itself. So much info and hard to navigate. I would like to see this area of the forum a little more structured.

I think its too General.

It leaves some subforums almost neglected.
Liked the old Layout way better.

Just my thoughts.

Agreed. The old forum layout was easier to navigate.

I'm still a bit fair-weathered with it so an honest opinion is tough but the old way was a tinge easier.

Agreed. I thought I'd get used to this one, but it's just horrible.

I think that now there is more order although we need time to find again the old post and the subforums. I hope in a month we will be complete adapted to this new forum distribution wink.gif

I like it, it took some time figuring out but it's all good now smile.gif

I agree on the theory part with Skennington though smile.gif

I like the new layout now. Was a bit sceptical at first, but it works fine once you get used to it smile.gif

I was a little sceptical too, but its coming around, I still do the reflex that if I wanna go off topic, I scroll the screen way down, now only to find out whos birthday it is. By all means I wouldnt call it worse! smile.gif

I have a suggestion to brake up the Community activities and tutorials into 2 smaller sections, because it is maybe little overloaded with subforums.

In one there will be instructor subforums and similar like - ask instructor, instuctors corner, student instructor lessons, and say theory board.

in other one everything that has to do with uploading and recording and such like - collabs, uploads, recording, virtual bands, competitions, gmc classified

I agree as well. In my opinion, this one looks like all forums and topics is just gathered in a pile.
I like it though, nothing negative about that tongue.gif I just liked the old one better wink.gif

I only ever go in the view new posts area of the forum anyway to be honest. Only delve into the forums when I want to post my own thread.

I do that too often!

No problems when surfing the boards normally though, things changed a bit but look OK to me, you can see all subforums in the blink of an eye now, and the order seems more logic.

But I use the "View new posts" options most of the time, that way I can see everything that has been going on since my last log, really useful! smile.gif

I'm spending too much time in the forums when I should be practicing! I think the new format smells much better, though...

Posted by: Nick325 Jun 5 2008, 12:57 AM

i like it and it only took me a day to get used to it

Posted by: Eat-Sleep-andJam Jun 5 2008, 12:58 AM

I didnt see what was wrong with the old one.......

It seems like just pilling up all the subforums into one area, A more spread out layout would help you find what your looking for faster IMO.

I find it confusing to find threads that wind up buried in other sections. I liked the long list on one screen.

I like the old ones better.... It was easier to find things

Posted by: skennington Jun 5 2008, 02:12 AM

Well, I see mixed thoughts here. I think with time we will get used to it and then if we were to change back to the old platform, we would feel the same as we do now. mellow.gif

What I suggest ( for those that are new or don't know) is to subscribe to the the boards that you enjoy the most. That way anytime a new topic is posted you will be notified. Make sure to set how you want to be notified in your "controls". Also, if you want to be notified of any new posts in a topic that you have posted in as well. smile.gif

I agree that alot of the boards are kinda hidden, but if you're subsribed to them, you're sure to be notified of any new activity.

So far the only thing i don't like about the new layout is the stickied posts at the top of the main discussion section.

Generally speaking when someone see's just one sticky it is human nature to assume it is rules and regulations for the board in question, or some other such thing. The other thing too is when you click on it it opens a new window with links to the stickied topics. But no post count. So in order for me to see if someone has replied for instance in "What are your weaknesses" thread i have to click the link and go to the last post to see if someone new has asked anything.

I think the sticked threads should just be like they were so people can see post count and last poster's name so they can stay apprised of any changes in the thread without having to click thru a pop up and forward on the pages button and scrolling down to the end.

That is my only suggestion. I think the rest of the layout is working out good.

Daniel
