Chord analysis of Shape of my Hearth.

Example 1
This is the basic chord progresion on F#m.

Example 2.

Now we make the bass line to go step by step from F# to C# (I to V).

Example 3

We keep the bass line and use the actual names chords of the song.

Example 4.
Same chords using triads. C#7 omits 5th to play 7th.


Example 5
We change some of the 5th in triads for added 6th.

Now all chords notes are on the same strings. And also we make some of the added notes become common notes with the next chord.


Example 6

Variation, we change F#m for D/F#.

Example 7.

D6 has a disonance betwwen the added 6 and the top 5th.

C#sus and F#m at the end are partially played by the guitar. The root is played by the bass player.

C#sus: The third (E#) is replaced by F# as an anticipation of the next chord (F#m)

Example 8.
We keep the upper part of the chord while the bass makes the line I VII VI V.

To modulate to C#m we stay in a common chord G#m, this chord is II of F#m and the IV of C#m.

Example 9

Modulating to F#m again.

We have the I VII VI V line in the middle voice: C# B A G#.
If we are staying in C#m we would be expecting G# instead of G#m.
We use A as a common chord. (VI of C#m, III of F#m)
