Let's take our TRIPEGGIO from last time and just add some fret traverse. It makes the lick sound much more dramatic. I'm just taking the lick and moving it down one fret at a time. I'm doing this with econ picking as that's the "sweep"ish bit that makes it sound a bit like a sweep/arp. Try to do the econ. But if it's just not working, play it in any way you can play it and make it sound cool smile.gif

Hopefully, this is familiar by now, but in case you have not tried it, do not be thrown off by the speed at which I'm playing in the demo. It's just a demo, to show you how it will sound once you practice it for a bit. There is NO SPEED REQUIREMENT EVER for quick licks. So as long as you play well, you can play it at any speed you like.
*Have a look at the video

*NOTE: Keep it smooth and under control. If you find you are losing control, slow down just a pinch.

Bingo!!!! That's it precisely. You've got the double down stroke and keep a very solid palm mute the entire time. No random string noise, not unwanted notes. Also, you nail the hammer on pull off bits and most of all you nail the traverse!! This one builds on the last one so you are in good shape from having some experience from the last one. You build on it quite well and add some very clean traverse. This drill can be taken all the way down the neck to get more work on econ picking and hammer/pulls. However, you may notice that your hand gets tired about half way down the neck. This is entirely normal. Try to add this to your warm up and just give it a single pass or maybe two, then add a new fret position each day. In no time you will have built up considerable stamina and speed. For now, you've got this!! You just...

Thanks Todd,

The traverse down the neck was the hardest to get, much harder than up the neck. At first my finger started to bend the string towards the edge of the neck and even at one point my finger came off the neck.

Peace.

Nice!! I was hoping you'd give it a whilrl all the way down!! This drill is custom built to help work on several things at once and you have a good handle on all of them. Just to give you a bit of a head start, try a practice run ascending after the descending, you will notice you may reach hand fatigue. That's normal. Stop. Try again later and you may get further. Eventually you will be running from 12th to 1st fret and back up to 12th with no sweat. At that point, you will start noticing it takes less time each time to do one down and up pass. This is your hand synch getting brisker. All the while getting a good pinky workout.

You may notice is feels like a struggle to move UP where moving down felt less so by comparison. Some find the exact opposite. I always felt resistance when climbing up, and found it smoother descending.

Very well played!! Nice guitar BTW!!

Todd

Impressive. Yet again another lick that not only requires deft pinky work, also requires deft picking work and then as a bonus requires deft fret traverse work. This is the kind of lick makes most folks wince with serious guitar face. Not you!! KRUSHED it without breaking a sweat. Good technique all around, good pacing. Felt very natural. You didn't force the speed, but didn't let it lag. Had enough to make it sound like it's supposed to sound but not so much that it blew apart. Nicely done. You just..

Top Notch Work! This one takes over where the last one stops off and requires fret traverse as well as the double pinky bounce. You gotta stick the landing, gotta keep it smooth and clean, gotta keep a tight pace, etc. This is a challenging bit and you tore through it like a pro!!!! I am looking forward to seeing the rest of your Quick Licks. You are really doing a killer job on these. You more than got this one covered. You just....

Bingo! This is one of the quick licks that is connected to the one right before. The one before is to prepare your pinky for doing this lick. You had the last one sorted and it seems to have helped a lot on this one! This one is about doing that lick with the pinky hammer on/pull off but then also doing several bits of fret traverse. Also, this lick is meant to prepare your hand for doing larger sweep picking licks as this is one of our "Quasi Peggio" licks. You got it sorted!

You just..
