does college help somone in trying to become a professional musician? or does it merely help them get a degree for teaching professionally? does college hinder somone's dreams from being a great musician? as in a music college? at about what age in general does a musicians career need to really start for them to do well? i know its all ages.. but genereally wat ages should musicians aim for?

Im in my 1st year at a college here in norway, it helps a lot. U will learn different styles, they will give u homework, which is great, cause then its like u HAVE to become better at playing. U will learn stuff u never knew about music at all, u learn how to see the musicality in every musical genre, u will learn everything from classical pieces to the fastest shredding licks. It gives u a lot of motivation for working as a musician.

Ofc it helps on getting closer to be a proffessional musician. Its like, im going to this college for 3 years, and its like theyre giving me the knowledge! Like i dont have to do it at home, i dont have to sit down and like "oh this is so boring but i have to learn it" (when talking about theory). If u pay attention in class, they will actually GIVE U knowledge on music! And if thats not enough, think about yourself sitting still doing the history homework, but when ur in a musical school u get to do what u love the most! (if music/guitar is what u love the most ofc.)

U will get inspiration, motivation, experience of playing with other great musicians, and u will progress really fast. Like i joined gmc about 11 months ago, and it helped me a lot. It was actually GMC that got me into that school. I would never have gotten in if i didnt find gmc. THANKS GMC.

Anyway, nowadays, for me its GMC and school. And im progressing even faster than just being at gmc! It doubles up for me!

Well dude, i hope u understood what i meant tongue.gif

Go to musical school if u have the upportunity. smile.gif

In my case I had lessons about music in industry. I have written many essays and did some serious research for exams related to money in music and all those things if you're about to become a professional. However they don't teach you what's the key to become one of those and have sucessful career. They only teach you if you ever get there what you should do. The moment you finish the school you're on your own to find the way for a good business which is not really easy. On the other side, speaking about music knowledge in general, university definitely helps.
