GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Time Spent: Forum \ Lessons

Posted by: skennington Jan 23 2008, 03:06 AM

Guys, I have to say that I spend more time here than I do on the lessons. Don't get me wrong, I practice every night with limited time. I've got a decent routine as a big'ner but feel I'm here way to much. This time could be spent on more scales or something. As I set here and type this, I could be jamming but just love to see whats going on!

How is your time spent here? If I'm at work, then cool, I'll post away. But practicing for an hour when it could be an hour and a half. Well, I guess I feel a little guilty.

GMC forum is addictive sad.gif
I have tried to make it a habit to turn off the computer screen and just turn myself a different way(unless of course I am learning from the internet, GMC for instance) when I'm playing biggrin.gif

Just watched your timing lesson, as said there, thank you. I'm practicing and typing tongue.gif

I usually keep them as two seperate things. I browse the boards mostly when i'm at work (mostly becase when i'm at work i wish i was practicing instead!), when i'm at home i usually just practice without the distraction of the internet. I've got my beginners practice schedule locked down, although to be honest it feels more like purgatory sometimes - there's so much stuff i want to do that i'm not ready for yet *patience*.

As long as being on the forums doesn't actively prevent you for practicing i wouldn't say it's dangerous to spend a fair bit of time on here.

I practice, type, practice, type, exactly like Smikey .. repeat all night and its a fair bit of practicing smile.gif

Glad it motivates you, just keep it up! smile.gif

I do alot of both. Since I have a job and kids, my most harcore practicing comes between 10pm an 2am. I can say that the forum part keeps me motivated much more than if the site was exclusively the lessons. Hearing everyone's stories and reading up on gear, artists, haircuts and sore body parts just keeps me interested. It's the combo that makes this place what it is.

the best way that i have found when learning certain lessons (such as sweep picking) is to do the lesson properly but when doing the excersises when browsing the forum, only stop with your right hand so your still practicing with one hand and typing with the other, it actually makes it so you HAVE to be relaxed when doing both or neither work.

A lot of time is at dreaded work so I can't play guitar even if I wanted to. I got band practice tonight though for 4 hours so all is good and tomorrow is my birthday and I have 2 days off work smile.gif So lots of guitaring and trying out my new toneport ux2 biggrin.gif

Good idea smile.gif
I think its also a good exercise for your brain, and you get the lick/riff in your muscle memory for sure smile.gif

Because I have a job where I have access to internet and absolutely nothing to do, I spend all my time browsing and posting on forums, mostly regarding guitarplaying or metal. And when I've been talking about guitars for 5-7 hours in a row without having access to one I am pretty needy when I go home biggrin.gif

But yeah, when I'm at home browsing forums, my ever so loyal HWY1 is on my lap wub.gif
