This is a great debate, not just for the amps mentioned but I've often thought about who is the better. I'm a fan of both, owning a Peavey 5150 Combo and a Marshall DSL combo. To me, the Peavey is slighty better, but I had to make some modifications to it to make it sound better like changing the speakers out. In terms of reliability Peavey edge it over Marshall lately. I've read, heard and seen a lot of modern Marshall's letting people down yet this definitely isn't the case with Peavey.

I dunno dude, like I say I've owned both (2 peaveys, and 1 marshall which I currently have)

On my peavey valveking 112 I had, I had to tighted almost every bolt and screw. Even the 4 screws that hold the speaker were loose, so it would kinda flop around. To me, that isn't quality.

But I haven't had to do that with the marshall (or the peavey rage 158 I had). Maybe just 1 bad peavey? I dunno.

I hear ya mate. I suppose its different for everyone but I've had nothing but good experiences from Peavey. I started off on bass with a Peavey TKO 75 with a Black Widow Speaker and it was perfect, 100% reliable, built like a tank and offered great value for money. The sound was great too. I also have a Peavey 5150 Combo which I use all the time. Its a great amp after the speakers were changed (I never really like the stock Sheffield Speakers).
I think in general, modern Peavey amps just kill all the low / mid ranged Marshall amps in terms of sound and quality. When it comes to valve stuff, the competition is neck and neck. I like them both, I have a Marshall DSL 201 and have used other Marshal Valvle amps in the past notably the TSL 100 Head and an old JCM 800. All very nice sounding but for me the Peavey 5150 (just) edges it on sound for me.

Yesterday I bought the Peavey. The model actualy was Envoy 110 Transtube, 40w, 6 ohms, 10" speaker. It is even better than I expected. I didn't write here cus I was busy listening to the sound happy.gif Even though it is second hand, the only thing that shows it 1 missing bolt from the box that holds the reverb to the amp but I put a new one tongue.gif It sounds awesome and you can imagine how excited I am knowing that this is my first amp. Until now I was playing by connecting the guitar directly to the soundcard of the PC and all the effects were... well you know tongue.gif
Here is a pic of my Peavey set - the guitar + the amp. Sorry about the low quality but I can't find my stupid camera so I took the pic with my phone tongue.gif

There is one thing that's bugging me. I get a strange buzz when I turn on a single pickup. Is that normal or there is something I need to do to remove it?

Right on man.

When your in positions 2 & 4 on the switch the buzz goes away right? Then this buzz is just the sound of single coils. It's normal, you might even learn to like it.
