What's up, guys? I've been a member for a couple months now, but this is only the second time I have hit the forums. Didn't see this topic the first time around.

I have watched a bunch of videos and I am pretty impressed. Just this weekend, I have started to practice a few of the lessons and exercises and am very pleased. Making progress.

I have been playing for about 10 years, but was primarily an acoustic player/singer for almost all of that time. I played quite a few small gigs as a solo act until 2001 when I broke my arm in 11 pieces training in Jiu-Jitsu. No that is not a typo. Two stainless steel plates and 9 titanium screws later and my arm is one piece again.

Unfortunately, I couldn't play guitar for about 18 months after the accident. When I did get back to it, by the time I got my technique to what it was before, I had a wife, two kids, a full time job, etc... Never did get back to gigging.

Recently, my passion for guitar has been renewed. But this time, I am concentrating on electric. I sold off some guitars and equipment that I no longer use/need and with the proceeds I have bought a shiny new Eric Johnson signature Strat. WOOOOT! I'm ready to shred! I've started with Pavel's alternate picking vids as well as some great exercises I found at http://ultimate-guitar.com. Not sure if that's cool or not, but it doesn't seem like a competing site, so I put it in there. If anyone has issues with it, just delete it or let me know and I'll delete it.

Anyway, great site! I'm thrilled that I found it as I KNOW it will greatly improve my chops!

Thanks,
Kevin

Welcome to GMC! An EJ Strat as your first electric?!?! Oh, man, am I jealous... biggrin.gif Anyways, you've definitely come to the right place! You'll be amazed at how quickly you can progress with this site.

I use UG for tabs quite often, but I don't like the site itself much...

Oh, I guess I did give the impression that the EJ was my first electric. This isn't actually the case.

Over the course of the last ten years, I have owned several electrics, I just never played them all that much. My first was a no-name strat-style junker. Then I got a funky Washburn multi-colored monstrosity that I don't recall the model number. After that, I got an amazing deal on a Gibson Les Paul standard. Sadly, that Les Paul sat in a closet for about 5 years without getting touched. I sold that a year ago and bought a top-of-the-line Ibanez Artcore Custom. Although that guitar was amazing, it wasn't really a good fit for me. I actually sold the Les Paul with the intention of buying an American strat. I sold it on consignment at my favorite music store and before I had the money in hand, I was talked into playing the Artcore. I bought it instantly on impulse.

I held on to that for almost a year until just a month ago or so. I started doing research into American strats and eventually decided the EJ was the one to have and wouldn't settle for anything less. I actually had to sell the Ibanez, my Mackie 808s powered mixer that I used to gig with, and a Washburn classical guitar that I hadn't played in years, to get enough money to buy the EJ.

I have honestly played my EJ more hours in the two weeks that I have had it than I played that Ibanez the whole time I had that. laugh.gif

But yeah, you should be jealous though. The EJ is, BY FAR, the best sounding, best playing, best looking guitar I have ever played!
