GMC Forum _ Bands and Guitarists _ Revocation's "existence Is Futile"

Posted by: Shime Mar 7 2010, 09:55 PM

If you're into heavy thrash metal with a touch of tech death, melodic shred and some hints of Primus, then check out Revocation, a young trio from the Boston area. Their entire debut album on Relapse Records is up for listening http://existenceisfutile.info/. Also check out their video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmg3jr7Bhfo&feature=fvst. David Davidson is quite the guitar player. I think these guys have lots of potential.

Thanks for sharing. I didn't know this band. I don't know how they can play this in the trio format on stage, as there are a lot of guitar arrangements...
The guitarist explains the riffs of "Dismantle The Dictator" here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHQu23nIfS8&NR=1
A lot of string skipping on the first riff !

In the video, the bit starting at about 3:05 til the end is just brilliant. That is one of the coolest riffs in modern music smile.gif

Yeah, they're fresh and fun to listen to (and I've been listening to thrash for over 20 years). On first hear it's just the next speed/thrash thing, buth when you've gone through the first tracks, you want more. Never mind the singing though, but the guitar is so inspirational: killer riffing with some punk attitude, and solos with lots of musical influences - blues, fusion, neo-classical shred, country... Here's a guy that definitely enjoys playing!
