GMC Forum _ Recording _ Cubase 5 - Decrease The Entry Level

Posted by: remi Oct 27 2010, 11:08 AM

Hi,

until then i was using audacity, the free program, to record my guitar but now i'm trying cubase 5, and well it's working but i have a big problem: i cannot manage to decrease the volume of the entry line that comes from my amp (fender gdec 3) directly connected in USB.

any idea on how to decrease the volume during the recording phase (because of course i can decrease it when it's already recorded, but it's too late, i already have recorded a sound with too much noise because too powerful).

many thanks to help me !

What sound card do you use?

There are several points on where you should watch for the input signal.

1. On the instrument itself (some pickups can have naturally strong signal, or volume on keyboards can be way up)
2. On the sound card preamp (there is either manual physical knob or a software one that can reduce the amount of signal that the sound card is sending via ASIO to your host software, in your case Cubase)
3. In Cubase main mixer on the left there is input panel (inputs buses are being handled via F4). There you should check for clipping.

let us know if you figure out the problem.
