Im sure pretty much everyone here listens to music ( Duh!.). One thing I discovered that I do believe helps improve :Inspiration, Motivation, and a variety of other things is something that is actually really simple.

Lets say you turn on the radio and this is your first sentence:

" Oh my god, Fall Out Boy! They SUCK!|" mad.gif

and you look for something else to listen to.

Three months later, you might hear the same song, and have a totally different set of ears when listening to it, and you may really like it ! Something like this actually happened to me. I started listening to a band I never thought I would listen to, and I started going back and listening to songs I used to like and songs I also used to hate. What I found Is that as we all grow as musicians are musical tastes change alot, but there is nothing like finding new ways to be inspired !

My Advice ?

1) Go into your Itunes Library or whatever and look for something you havnt listened to in forever, Listen to it !
See if you still like it as much as you did. If so, Ask yourself why. If you dont, Analyze that aswell !:D

2) Try to find a style or song that you've never really liked. Listen to it !
See if anythings changed ! biggrin.gif ! If so, why has it changed ! If not, Analyze that also !

3) After you have listened some of your Best and Worsts of 08, try writingsome music.
See what comes up.

Ive found out that alot of the stuff I would never listen to a year ago, I am listening now ! It really is great inspiration !

Hope that helped ! Later ! biggrin.gif

I can honestly say I would never like Fall Out Boy laugh.gif

There are bands I will never stop listening to and bands I listen to every day of those and not so often and then there are the phase music which constantly changes.

A lot of truth in there.
I noticed it a few times in both ways, quite interesting in fact.

btw .. what's wrong with Fall Out Boy? I think they have some quite interesting arrangements in their songs ... mellow.gif

Great advice, I experienced also a dozens of times that my "canon" of music varies throughout time... smile.gif

However, I still think there are songs and music that are really mediocre (or worse) dry.gif and that there are bands creating such music. I will not name any now, but I'm not going to listen to them either (for a long time now on)... but that's only because there are so much good music out there...

...that I don't have any time to listen to those that suck... happy.gif

Still, thanx for the topic ESaJ

Great advice, I often listen to all kinds of music, jazz, classical, ethnic, world, blues, rock, classic rock, metal, soul, funk, even pop, RnB and techno, all kinds of music have different qualities and good things, and if the music composition is a quality one, regardless of type of music, then much can be learned from it.

Well music to me personally are songs that send a chill down my spine everytime I hear them or songs that make me want to dance and go crazy. Or great riffage and melodic songs.

Chilled out musical landscapes smile.gif

Yeah I like a few of their songs too, they have some catchy tunes with crunching guitar tones.A lot dont like them as there popular and look Emo-Realy makes me LOL when you see a lot of people slag them off for their looks when they themself like metal bands that wear more man makeup and hair products than all the emo bands combined.
Just look at ALL the 80's rock/metal bands!lol

FOB do lack serious solos!

Emo definitely takes a lot looks wise from 80's glam but glam should stay in the 80's laugh.gif Although I did love glam music like Ratt and Poison.

As a kid i refused to like some music because of their popularity. A few years later when the hype is gone i suddenly realize that the music was not too bad. Michael Jackson i remember not to have liked back then .. now i love it.

If music is only about music then we should just listen to the music and try to keep our judgments free from how the music is presented.

I think there is no music genre which doesn't have a corresponding fashion or dress code. If i decide i don't listen to some music, because i don't like the fashion ... damn, i could go to classical concerts anymore.
