An Overdive pedal to go with your tube amp. With it you set the level to full and step on it to get that extra roar from the tubes.
A Wah, because it's so much fun to use Delay. Kick it for solo runs f.ex. For solo runs an EQ pedal is great too, for raising the mids a bit and boost the signal too if it comes with a level adjustfy. Those are the ones that should always be on every pedal board. Then you can spice it up with others but if you get OD, Wah, Delay and EQ you've come a long way. -------------------- My bands homepage

Speaking of T.C., I have G-Force and I can say only the best about this unit,
plus it's rack stuff so you basicly have nothing on the floor to step on. And if you buy good tube amp, with few channel then you probably won't need any drive pedal at all, most often pedals hooked with an amp are wah, delay, chorus and such, as MickeM suggested. I play Morley wah and I love it tho you can try some other like Dunlop, Vox etc. Boss makes good delay and chorus pedals, you can't go wrong with Boss. -------------------- Youtube

you can't go wrong with Boss. true.... I have bought 15 years back ago MT-2 (it's a distortion) - and still I'm fond of its sound... The only thing I lack now is a delay. |

I would agree with Muris on this one. If you plan to use the amp at home, it would be best to consider all-in-one quality effects unit like G-Force or a cheaper option G-major. Both are great, and have enough effects so you don't need anything but (possibly) a booster pedal and a wah.

Hi Vai
I've been doing a lot of pedal research lately, and I've found a few sites that might help you. Check this site out for a HUGE amount of demo's of some awesome pedals - http://www.proguitarshop.com/ They have such a huge variety of pedals to both sell and give excellent quality and in depth demo's of many of their items. They do however stock a large amount of boutique style effects, clones etc.. which might not fit everyones budget. I've heard a lot of good things about the Xotic range (search for BB preamp, AC and RC boosts) and personally use a Butler Tube Driver for my Overdrive/booster on my tube amp. Satriani has a Butler Tube Driver with the optional Bias knob to get more gain out of it, it's an excellent sounding and versatile pedal using real 12A*7 tubes. Other than that check out Digitech whammy pedals, as they are a lot of fun and also very versatile. Everyone from Vai to Radiohead to David Gilmour have used the whammy. I'm personally in the market for a Skreddy Mayo or Pink Flesh as these are FANTASTIC sounding, hand made, spiced up, Muff clones from the 70's era I'd also check out video's on youtube by Gearmanndude here http://uk.youtube.com/user/gearmanndude He reviews and demo's and compares some great pedals... and just might be jack black himself! (apparently) Anyway, hope this helps in your search! I've been very happy with my Boss GT-8 for years, but now looking to sell as I'm becoming more inclined to use stomp boxes and anologue pedals with the new tube amp I've bought. For the price and range of effects on the board, I'd also recommend looking into POD and BOSS style multi FX. However they won't do your tube amp much justice I'd say. Hey,
I have a Line 6 with some on-board effects, however i was planning on buying a tube amp soon....so, what do you guys think are some necessary (or just cool sounding) pedals i should try to acquire for a new pedalboard? (Or i know lots of people love those TC Electronic products with tons of built in effects, what do you all think of those? I barely play live so its not necessary for me to have stuff on the floor to step on...) BTW-im really into satriani, andy timmons, blues saraceno, marco sfogli, etc... G Major sounds like a good choice. It's a very good device with hi quality FX. Other than that be sure to check out some preamps and wah pedal for your tube amp.
BTW what amp are you getting? -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE

Tube screamer and/or Boss BD-2 blues driver are a good bet, but before buying, consider the Keeley or AnalogMan modded versions of these pedals. For a few bucks more you could reach audio Nirvana. I think the AnalogMan version has a slight edge, but both have great reputations.
Keeley BD-2 Phat mod AnalogMan Boss mods OldToneZone Pedal Comparinator When using this very cool tool, stick around for the SECOND sample in the demos, it's a riff on Little Wing that is VERY revealing and helpful in deciding the sound YOU want. Hmm, definitely some good amp to consider. I would advise to perhaps check out the wah pedal first, since both of these amps have plenty of gain, and channels. Of course the choice is yours mate, some good preamp can make a difference as well.

My friend has a wah, that has an option that when you kick it as a normal pedal, like squeeze it, it turns into a volume pedal, so youll get both for price of 1 You have to be carefull and check these type of 2 in 1 pedals because sometimes the quality of both isn't the best. I didn't try it but a friend had a bad experience with a wah wah + Whamy pedal. -------------------- My lessons
