Hey there,

I now play guitar for about 2 years, but i have never bought a guitar. So my problem is that i really do not know what i should take care of. My dad says pickups are the most important thing, but i don't know if he is right... My budget is about 500 € so not too much. i thought about a epiphone firebird or les paul. or a fender stratocaster. but to define my question:

what do i really need to tace care of?

thx, peter

Well, you need to take care of the whole guitar wink.gif
But if you want a good guitar for 500 euros, a epiphone les paul or a fender should be really good smile.gif
There is also some cheap Ibanez and Jackson as well as ESP Edwards from Japan, all good guitars!

It depends on what you're looking for in sound, what style you play etc.
The best choice would be to try out the guitars at a shop and pick the one you think is the best for you smile.gif

That's the best idea. IMO, feel and playability are the most important things in a guitar, since the guitar that you intend to buy will, if you're dedicated to playing, be apart of your body and so you really want a guitar that you feel comfortable with.

Sorry if that seemed a bit nonsenical, I'm very tired right now... ( Is nonsenical even a word? blink.gif )

Pickups are offcourse important, but they can always easily be changed and replaced with something better if needed later. The most imporant thing is finding a guitar that feels comfortable and playable.

But you shouldnt have problems finding a overall good one for 500 €.

In addition to those audiopaal mentioned, i can safely add Schecter to that list.

Find something that fits in your hands perfectly. You'll know it when you take a guitar and start to play everything with ease. I would say that's a number one priority for that kind of budget. Number two priority would be sound.

If it's a 500E guitar I'd stay off floating tremolos and get a firm bridge (like a string through body, tuneomatic or similar)
People who have low end tremolos seem to have problems with tuning and the material wears down.

About the choise between a Les Paul type and a Strat type guitar that falls back on you, what sound are you looking for?
To make it simple, Humbuckers (Les Paul) is fat, Singlecoils (Strat) is twang.

Hi,

I got this as my first guitar. Plays really nice and easy to play on:
http://www.musikborsen.se/frameset.aspx?id...176565&fm=1

Looks good too smile.gif but today I actually bought a new guitar, twice the price but
it sounded like a dream and it's this model:
http://www.musikborsen.se/frameset.aspx?id...177964&fm=1

Main reason for new guitar was active pickups on the RGT6.

nice change in my plan smile.gif :

because i finish my exam this year, ill get a guitar for twice the price, that means for about 1000€. i thought about this one:
http://www.thomann.de/at/gibson_les_paul_studio_99_wr.htm

i think it's a very good quality and i really enjoy humbucker sound. i also thinks this one's beautiful because of it's "flamed" colour.

XD

One word: Schecter! They are damn cheep, considering that it is an extremely good guitar! The neck is very smooth, they aren't that heavy, cool, but not excessively looks, good sound and so on!

Found some examples for you:
Schecter Synyster Custom (My favorite Schecter!)
Schecter C1XXX (Check the fretboard inlays tongue.gif)
Schecter Hellraiser C-7

A lot more Schecter guitars here, and all their models can be found at Schecter.com. Promise you won't be disappointed with a Schecter!

Cheers,
Batista

They are darn awesome!

I think your father is right if you think about pickup type, and not pickups themselves (because they can be changed). But deciding if you want humbuckers or single coil, or mixed is very important.

When playing a guitar in a shop, try it out without the amp first. If you like the sound, it is more likely you will be able to add good pickups later.
