Hey guys. I'm wanting to add a couple of things to my soup and wanted some suggestions.

I'm getting ready to purchase an MXR Micro Flanger pedal, I have the MXR Phase 90 and love it!

I was wanting people's suggestion on 2 things:

1) A good boost pedal. Maybe a tube screamer? Something that ads just a little volume punch and gain for solos. Cosmin, You had shown a pedal - Shiba Drive a while back and wondered if that was the one I should go with - I'd prefer to spend less than $200 on it though, if there is something good and comparable around $100 would be great.

2) Has anyone had any luck with wireless headphones? I was thinking of some to output from my computer. Just can't stand the chord while I'm practicing.

I do have the boost options programmed in my HD500 - but I only use that for practice and recording. For live sound I use all stomp boxes and a Marshall - I prefer my live rig to be computer free.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Hi there - let me chime in on the #1.

My suggestion for a good boost pedal is always a Fultone OCD. It has a quality sound to it and also can be versatile. You can use it on clean channel to make it dirty and distorted but also just to beef up solos. It does have a unique sound character which you'll either love or hate so try it out and see what you think.

Regarding wireless headphones - I'll be closely monitoring this thread smile.gif
I can't stand the cables of any kind.

Congratulations! smile.gif

If you like MXR stuff, I can also recommend MXR Micro Amp pedal. It gives you a completely clean boost which is useful for making your solos stand out. Lots of people using it and I feel bad for not finding it when I was looking for a booster pedal for my bass setup (it works on bass too as its very clean).

That's awesome! This may be exactly what I'm looking for, had never heard of it! But it is a clean gain, now I'm torn between this idea and the Shiva Drive. The MXR is only $69 though.

This Shiba Drive vid is awesome, he's playing through his iPhone...

With these 2 units - one pedal being the boost I'm looking for and another being the slight overdrive edge, I guess I would like these pedals built into one that does both and the same time.

I dig that Mesa tone burst! I'm thinking (hope I'm wrong), that I may need to take two pedals and plug them into 1 switch that controls them both. So far from just looking online, I am finding pedals that do either - but not one that clearly states it does both. My goal is the get a tone just before the lead that requires only one "stomp", anything more and I'm libel to fall on my face, break all my strings and have a complete psychotic meltdown.

toggeling pedals is tricky for me to. it took me practice hitting the right pedal especialy when i have to hit one then the other but i found kickin in the OD at start of a solo then say i want phase along with it iswitch it on at the 1 beat of the next bar so i dont get all tripeed up on the timing of the song

That's a good system and likewise it's what I currently do, then do the same once the solo is over, but I spend so much time thinking about that process that there's a mental hiccup and I'll kick it to clean, or bank up or forget the next chord, etc. It happens to me all the time.

Hey! You already received great suggestions for the boost pedal. I think that there are lots or options and many of them are good. You can also use an overdrive or a compressor for the same purpose. I wonder if you saw this thread:

Thanks Gab - yes I saw that thread this morning, awesome little widget.

I believe I'm going to bite the bullet and go with the Shiba Drive.

So, now, hopefully someone has had good experiences with cordless headphones. Years ago I purchased a cheap set of Sony's and they were terrible.

Headphones. I do most of my practicing at around 4 a.m. and also sometimes I like playing louder than I am comfortable with using my wired monitors (neighbors). The headphone cord dangles all over the neck of my guitar and left hand. How I'm set up, in order to use my effects pedals, I stand about 6 to 8 feet from my computer, and the headphone cord makes it miserable.

Ah ok, I don't know wireless headphones, I only know the wireless system by Shure which is really good but something that is used for playing live.

Well, this is how braindead I can be. I was just about to order that Shiba drive and decided to do a google search to see if anyone had posted a video of it with a Marshall, when I realized my JVM 410 is all I need, just set the volume/gain in OD2 to the lead tone I want - problem solved.

Great to know that you noticed this on time! Sometimes we have to explore a bit more our current gear before getting something to add.
