I did hear that Microsoft allegedly said something about repairing all Xbox's from 2007 and older. I don't know if this is true, but it doesn't hurt to call MS customer service and ask for a possible repair or replacement! Best of luck. Because of the error of their ways and without sending out a recall they extended the warranty to 3 years knowing the majority of 1st generation consoles were going to go bad. No recall meant they could deal with the defects one at a time instead of a flood allowing the cost to Microsoft to be a ton less while still taking care of the consumer. The problem is even if you bought your console a year later or even more you still quite possibly could have purchased a first gen console hence the 3 year warranty. I know this doesn't help your situation but at least you know you're not the only one and they will most definitely take care of you. They will usually send out a refurb but if you're lucky like me in this instance (very rare trust me) they sent me a brand new one. Good luck!!!! Call Microsoft and wait on hold for about an hour and then talk to one of there supervisors , after giving them enough info they will then send you a box in the mail . Usually with no shipping problems this takes about 3-4 days Once you recieve the box you must put your xbox and only your xbox in the box ( that means no harddrive!) This is the hard part. You must then wait for about 3 weeks for Ups to send your Xbox back Pretty dumb, I know.
