If a floating bridge does not bother you, I would suggest a DK2 in that price range. Versatile guitar

I've heard the qiote opposite, that LTD plays very well and meets good value for the money. Made in Korea I belive.
No tremolo doesn't have to be a cons on a guitar in this price ragne I belive. To be honest, I'd prefer to not have it in a cheaper kind of guitar since a low quality tremolo can both steal tone and have difficulties keeping tone. -------------------- My bands homepage

Then I recommend you get a guitar with a high quality tremolo, meaning more $$$. I've got a RG320 Ibanez and the floating trem blows. It was ok up to about when warranty ran out, then the knife edges (see floating trem ^) were damaged. Sure, it can be repaird but what's the guaratee that with low quality goods it will not happen soon again. So my advice, spend some extra if you can - to get good quality. -------------------- My bands homepage

You can only buy at samash right?
They have an only explorer case that says it's for Epiphone explorers but I am sure yours will fit too http://www.samash.com/webapp/wcs/stores/se...ategorySA-10001 This one is more expensive but it is for explorer and flying V guitars also and it looks like a coffin too^^ http://www.samash.com/webapp/wcs/stores/se...ategorySA-10001 I think it would be best when your father asks the guys at the store for a case when he buys your guitar. They will show them the ones they have in stock. -------------------- Gear: - Jackson USA Select KV2 King V with EMG 81/85 - Gibson Les Paul Custom Arctic White with EMG 81/85 - Ibanez Rg 8527 J Custom 7-String with DiMarzio Evolution and Air Norton - Peavey 6505+ head with Marshall 1960AV 4x12 cab - Peavey Vypyr 30 Practice Amp - Dunlop Crybaby From Hell, Maxon OD808, Boss TU-2, MXR CarbonCopy, ISP Decimator, MXR Custom Audio Electronics Booster |

It isn't ideal and can damage the guitar. -------------------- Gear Guitars:- Caparison Horus Snowcloud, Parker Nitefly M, Parker Nitefly SA, Gibson SG, Parker P10e, 40 Year Old Spanish Acoustic Amps:- Framus Ruby Riot 2x12" stack |

I think the same, avoid tremolos if you are a new to guitar, it is simpler. Do you like the les paul shape or the strat shape?
