GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Iphone Storage Full?

Posted by: Todd Simpson Dec 16 2017, 08:57 AM

I have gotten to the point where my iphone is a regular production tool of mine. I use it with Garage Band and Guitar Rig with my Toneshifter as an interface and I use Dropbox on the iphone to allow me to get videos on the phone from youtube so that I can post guitar videos on my INSTAGRAM account smile.gif In case you ever wondered how folks manage to get parts of their vids on instagram, that's one way smile.gif As a result, my storage filled up quickly with "OTHER" files maxing out my phone. This became a HUGE pain as I could not even record short song ideas. if anyone else has an iPhone (for all I know I"m the only one), there is an easy fix..

1.)Backup your phone using iTunes
2.)Reset your phone to factory settings using the RESET feature
3.)RESTORE your phone using the restore feature.

BAM I went from having zero storage left on my phone, which was causing all kinds of problems, to having 13 GB of 16 GB free!! It's an old 6s with only 16gb so storage is at a premium

So if your iphone barks at you when you try to take a picture or put up a video, try this smile.gif

Great tips Todd! I switched to iPhone 7 and I still didn't have storage issues but I'll have to do this soon. Thanks!!

I ran in to this issue after I figured out how to put my youtube videos on to instagram. Next thing you know, my phone is full!:) For those wanting to put their youtube vids (or at least previews of them, as they are only 60 seconds long) on INSTAGRAM just do this.

1.)Download the dropbox app for your phone and computer, and make a free account. Make sure to use the SAME LOGIN AND PASSWORD on computer and phone. This is a rookie mistake that I see all the time. sad.gif

2.)Download the firefox web browser for your computer and install the VIDEO DOWNLOAD HELPER extension

3.)Grab any of your youtube vids using your computer via firefox and the video download helper button now in your browser.

4.)Move the movie file to your drop box folder on your computer

5.)Go to your phone and pull up the drop box app. You'll see hte file! Click on it and select EXPORT/SAVE VIDEO. This will put it in your video/pix folder on your phone.

6.)Go to instagram and upload your new vid! People respond better to vids than to stills so the more the merrier!! Also a great way to leverage your existing youtube content (BRANDON!) then make a short link in the post to the longer video on ytoutube providing folks yet another way to find your content on social media.

I Ignored my instagram account for years but finally have started paying attention to it and have added nearly 100 followers since adding more vids. Here is a link to see it. The first six things are short vids. smile.gif
