As far as I know Cosmin the HS7 is a near field with a rear port. Both of those imply that it should be sited so that it is close to the rear wall to enhance the bass response. Yamaha should have provided a guide when you got them, which should have a section about placement. If they didn't you should be able to get one here .
The HS7 is Yamaha's latest version of the NS10 and it's had some great reviews so should be a good studio monitor for mixing :-). To be honest the guy on that site is talking about the distances you would use if you were using mid or far field monitors but he dioesn't seem to realise it. That's a tad disappointing given that he masters audio. Just to add, you can experiment with blocking the rear port with some acoustic foam. You'll lose some low bass but the smoothness of the frequency response, timing, stereo image and so on will all improve. -------------------- Get your music professionally mastered by anl AES registered Mastering Engineer. Thank you Tony! I got the printed manual when I bought them, but it didn't tell anything regarding the distances in the back - only the ones between the monitors and myself
