Since my life is starting to come back to normal, I hope to be getting back on YouTube regularly again. I do have a little less time now, since I have a full time job; however, I have my space back - my own room! biggrin.gif

I had forgotten my Sennheiser headphones at my girlfriend's place some time back, and she kept saying that her own headphones were fine and that she liked them. I finally convinced her to just try mine cause they were there anyway. She did and she barely wanted to give them back!

Most of my friends (not musicians) don't like my headphones....don't get the "power of the mids" comparing to their " make me boom boom DJ" headphones biggrin.gif

The 8-string looks nice! What is that padding kind of thing next to the nut? Is it some sort of dampener?

Thanks guys! Cosmin, the EP just needs a little more vocal recording and then our studio guys will work their magic. I hope a couple of months? biggrin.gif I don't know. But I feel sooooooo ready to get it out!! tongue.gif

Taka, that dampener is a piece of a foam I cut from what that little amp was sitting in. I hope it will keep those overtones from coming thru. It looks better than tying a sock around the nut. laugh.gif

Awesome to hear it's almost done, mate!

I am looking forward to hear it and it looks like you set up the perfect cozy atmosphere for recording and working with sounds! Great, great, great! Oh btw, out of what I have learned, the monitors look a little bit too close from one another - might be you will consider getting some stands for them?

I also heard that it is a good idea to leave room behind the monitors - not keep them so close to a wall - I am learning things myself and I found this neat article you might like to take a look at: http://recordmixandmaster.com/2010-03-the-...eaker-placement

Much of what the guy says is good, general advice. However it isn't as simple as what he says. It also depends on if the monitor is designed to be placed near a wall, whether or not the monitor is ported and if so whether the port is rear or forward or side firing. The vast majprity of small 2 way monitors are specifically designed to be close to the rear wall because they use it to enhance the bass response. That 'enhancement' however often introduces timing and placement issues and if you move the monitor away from the rear wall then these can become more obvious even whilst the bass rolls off.

Thanks for the advice Tony - can you tell me a bit about my monitors? smile.gif I have the Yamaha HS7 and I would be curious if they are among the ones that have to sit near the wall or away from it

Thank you in advance smile.gif

As far as I know Cosmin the HS7 is a near field with a rear port. Both of those imply that it should be sited so that it is close to the rear wall to enhance the bass response. Yamaha should have provided a guide when you got them, which should have a section about placement. If they didn't you should be able to get one here .

The HS7 is Yamaha's latest version of the NS10 and it's had some great reviews so should be a good studio monitor for mixing :-).

To be honest the guy on that site is talking about the distances you would use if you were using mid or far field monitors but he dioesn't seem to realise it. That's a tad disappointing given that he masters audio.

Just to add, you can experiment with blocking the rear port with some acoustic foam. You'll lose some low bass but the smoothness of the frequency response, timing, stereo image and so on will all improve.

Thank you Tony! I got the printed manual when I bought them, but it didn't tell anything regarding the distances in the back - only the ones between the monitors and myself
