Heya!

So I've "played" guitar for about a year now (had my gear, played ocassionally), but even though I'm still quite a beginner I've started to fell like getting some effects or upgrading what I got:

Guitar: Fender Squier '51 .
Amp: Marshall MG15CDR .

I have a wide taste in music, but I mostly listen to Rage Against the Machine, Queens of the Stone Age, Incubus and stuff like that.

First I was thinking of getting some effects, looking at a Digitech Whammy pedal or some wah wah (maybe a Crybaby), 'cause I would like to create the crazy sounds Tom Morello gets.
But then again I don't know if it would be better for me to upgrade my guitar/amp before getting those effects.
I don't wanna buy a completely new guitar yet since I really like the shape of mine and its simple design (with only a volume knob, which can be pulled out to create an effect I don't know the name of, and a pick up switch). The body's made of basswood which I've heard is decent, so maybe I could just replace the pick ups to get a fatter sound. The biggest problem about my guitar is a constant buzzing (probably because of the poor bridge?), and I also feel alot of resistance from the neck(maple)/strings when trying to slide up and down (don't know how to fix this, maybe I can get some better strings?).

But oh well.. Mentioned some questions, if you got it tongue.gif but to sum it all up I need some advice on what to do/get. My budget is 500$ max, and try to keep in mind I live in Denmark so the prices on everything is close to doubble those in the states smile.gif

Hope you guys can help me ^^

I order stuff from Germany, it's way cheaper than here in Sweden.

With $500 I guess you'd have more fun getting a few effects (though the Laney LC15 amp is within your budget). Maybe you could improve your sound with
Dunlop Wah (simple model), Digitech DF-7, a delay, Digitech Bad monkey (good price overdrive) and maybe a Phaser or a Flanger is fun smile.gif
Just some ideas.

About your guitar. Is it fret buzz?? If so it maybe just your neck, or your frets need either filed, or set back into place. If its just when its itting htere. Dont worry i have that problem to. Its just picking up other signals!! I think your amp is picking up extra signals, since its a constant buzzing!!

For effects. IMO i like the chorus, and flanger, with some distortion. biggrin.gif I got the newest ibanez makes of the chorus/flanger pedal, the CF7.It drains batteries like NO OTHER, but its pretty nice to use when its not dead tongue.gif

while i highly recommend getting the best equipment that you can, it sounds to me like you need to talk to somebody about setting up what you have. sounds to me like you could improve things. you also need to know about setup when you get a more upscale guitar. you can read about it on internet. just search on

guitar setup

or something like that.

what you need most in effects in distortion, and echo/reverb. also you want something to get you the harmonic range so you can do harmonics easily. look at some multi effects boxes with an expression pedal. they have some that are decent now that are quite inexpensive. for example, the zoom g1.x is decent for $80, has a lot of effects you can play with, a noise gate, drum machine, etc. that might get you by for awhile.

i agree a wah is nice, i have one. but i would see if i have enough money for that first, if it is a tight buget, might put that extra in to a better guitar rather than a wah, and get an inexpensive multi device.

Can you give some links? I don't know any german online shops hehe tongue.gif

Nah it's not fret buzz, I got rid of that using a file :] It's just a constant buzzing, but if I gently touch the bridge or one of the strings it nearly goes away..

I probably won't be getting any pedals for that, because I'm satisfied with my amps distortion and reverb, so no need for me to burn money on something I already got (yet =p).

But thanks again for your replies, it helped me some smile.gif
Think I'm getting some wah. I don't really like the cheaper multiFX boxes, it just feels like you get alot of low quality effects that doesn't sound good anywway :/

The buzz is likely from "disturbances" being senced by your pickups. Singlecoils are sensitive for fluorecent lights fex but anything can be a source, like a remote control, your computer or anything electric.

I'd never file my frets. Saddles, yes, but frets, not me. It'd raise the bridge.

I think Yoda was playing a LS Ibanez in one of the Star Wars movies, a fretless Light Saber with 39 frets I believe(AMAZING INDEED!).

Yes guitars are amazing, but I am pretty sure it is the work of aliens.

So I've decided to go get a Crybaby. I seem to be hooked for the 535Q, even though it's the more expensive one, but first I would like to hear from people who got it (or other Crybabies) and what you guys think of them?
I'm going for something that will fit many kinds of music without being too heavy/metal..
