Dec 28 2008, 03:40 AM	GMC:er Posts: 342 Joined: 2-October 07 From: Reykjavik, Iceland	Hi This is a cover of a little tune from a 1986 Black Sabbath album Seventh Star. This is a great album, but it was originally supposed to be a Tony Iommi solo project, but the record company insisted he used the famous name. Glen Hughes provides outstanding vocal performance. I higly recommend this album, a hidden gem. But anyway, I covered this track, In Memory. This is my first project using Sonar 8 Producer and I used EZ drummer for drums and tried to get as close to the original drums as possible, and I think it´s pretty close. Guitar Rig 3 is used for all guitar and bass sounds, the accoustic is a little harsh sounding, but it´s hard to get a good accoustic sound recording only direct line through onboard (Ovation) preamp. The song is a little longer then the original, just to make room for some solos of course. Check it out, both my cover and the original if you can get it, it´s a beautiful song. Dec 28 2008, 12:48 PM	GMC:er Posts: 342 Joined: 2-October 07 From: Reykjavik, Iceland	Thanks I like Sonar alot, but it takes a little time getting used to, the user interface is a little tough to learn, not as easy like Cubase, but it´s worth the effort to learn it, many great features, like the 64 bit engine, and it uses multi core tecnology. I did not upgrade from Sonar 7, I was a Cubase user, so Sonar 8 is my first experience. About the clipping in the mix, I can not export the project in mp3 format, because you have to buy the encoder seperatly, so I exported in Wav format and there were no clipping there. But Wav is too big to upload so I used AVS audio converter to convert from Wav to mp3, and then I got all this clipping and dropouts. I fixed the clipping, it was not AVS converter´s fault, I just lowered the sliders in Sonar mixer, and it sounds fine now. I adjusted the mixing as well, I think it sounds decent, but what do you guys think, anything you would do different, I´m still not pleased how the accoustic guitar sounds, it stands a litle bit out of the mix. Perhaps I'd try panning the picked guitar a little to the left, solo guitar seem to be a little bit to the right already. Just to try and see if it gets more roomy, I belive the picked guitar is very much in the middle now. But I must say I'm impressed by how good all the instruments sound by themselves. Set the gain on your pre-amp about half way and level all of the 3 eq sliders to the middle. find a studio vocal patch in your modeler and you should be able to find a nice clean acoustic tone that you like.
