Hey folks. Just wanted to let people know that we are ok up here in Alaska after getting rocked out of bed this morning by a 7.0 earthquake. A lot of things in our house are destroyed but we are still alive and kicking and that is what is important. It was bad, but it could have been far worse and we are grateful that it wasn't.
Below is a link to an article from a local news source showing an aerial view of Vine rd which is about 10 minutes away from our home here in Big Lake. We were fortunate enough to get power back about 12 hours after the quake and the house is heating back up now. I have been through a few shakers since I have been up here but this was the worst and pretty scary. I thought for sure that my house would collapse while we were riding it out. We thank God that it didn't.

Egad man. Sorry to hear about this. Glad the heat came back on! Without heat in Alaska at this time of year could be very dangerous. Also glad the house is standing! Our thought are with you.

Thanks everyone. We are still cleaning up around here. Pretty much everything that was on a shelf or in a cabinet etc ended up on the floor. We lost a couple flatscreen tv's, one that was a brand new 65 inch uhd. Almost every dish, plate and glass that we owned is broken among other things like lamps, pictures etc. Oh well, it's only stuff, although it still stings a bit.
My guitars however are fine. They were all hanging on the wall with Hercules guitar hangers which lock the guitar in when you hang it. I highly recommend them!
A bathroom vanity got ripped from the wall so I have some plumbing repair to do there as well as downstairs to the plumbing connected to my pressure tank. It is still functional and we have water but it will still need to be repaired. Still it's not too bad and should be an easy fix. We are on a private well for water and it is running a bit cloudy still but is gradually clearing up.
I have a few pics of the ice in front of our house and some cracks in the ground in front of my neighbors house that I took when I went over to check on their house. They have another house in Anchorage and were not out here during the quake. There are actually quite a few cracks in the ground around here and the land close to the shoreline seems to have dropped a bit. The ground right in front of my folks house dropped 6 inches and now it is quite a big step going in the door from the patio. Amazingly they have no cracks in the drywall though. I framed that house by the way lol (pats self on the back ).
2 days after the quake it is being reported that all utilities are back to 100% which is amazing and no severe injuries or deaths have been reported as a result of the quake. Also amazing. Heck it takes at least 3 days to plow all the roads after it snows lol.
I think we are all extremely lucky because as I have already said, it could have easily been much worse.
