This is a little collab I started with fellow GMCer opeth.db........Dan.......did this awhile back. I need to get off my lazy butt and finish it. Dan did the drums and backing guitar. Feel free to tear it to shreds. I know it's sloppy and I have way too much gain...... tongue.gif laugh.gif

Nice ideas! your phrasing feels very fluent!

I think the amount of gain is relative,

Steve Vai is one of my favorite players and sometimes he uses a lot, sometimes not

Monte! Finally my turn to mentor you laugh.gif haha, really cool solo dude! I mis a story line a bit, you've got some cool licks, but no build up or structure. You're technique is just fine, nothing wrong with that. the only thing... vibrato! I don't know what vibration tempo you use, but it irritates my ears laugh.gif try to use a rhythm in the vibrato motion just like with notes. Try to bring one, two, three or even four vibrations per beat, depending on the BPM and the typ of vibrato you want. I'd speed your vibrato up a little until it's in phase with the music. I once heard you saying "my out of pitch vibrato", but I think your vibrato isn't out of pitch, or it's the amount it should be, but it's out of tempo!

tone is just fine, your sweeps are very clear, nice tongue.gif

Hey man this sounds very interesting. Dan's backing track is cool too, possibly the drums are a little bit harsh sounding...You playing and phrasing lacks a little bit development but at the same time if you wanted to make an melancholic mood - you got it. Good job recording this...

Very strong melody and technique. At times it reminds me of Marco Sfogli's Still Hurts. Yeah, that's how awesome both the playing and the backing track sounded. Respect smile.gif

Gain is fine I think, A touch of corrective EQ to polish the tone and it should be good to go. The playing itself is good, like Kaznie said, a faster vibrato would be nice, and the structure goes off here and there, but its nothing too big to me - All in all a very cool piece, with some minor fine tuning it will be what you want I think smile.gif

Very well played, excellent control over the tone. I like it a lot. The whole mix can be a bit better tho.
