There are six important scales we must know:
natural major scale, harmonic major scale, melodic major scale
natural minor scale, harmonic minor scale, melodic minor scale

I recommend to study the major scales on C major and the minor scales on Am scale, because they are relatives.
In fact they both use the same audible material.

Each of them has two different ways: harmonic and melodic
For major scale:
harmonic means b6
melodic means b6 and b7

For minor scale:
harmonic means #7
melodic means #6 and #7

I start with C natural major scale.
It has 7 modes.
I - Ionian
II - dorian
III - phrygian
IV - Lydian
V - Mixolydian
VI - eolian
VII - locrian

Mode means a different sound using the same notes (C,D,E,F,G,A,B )

Harmonizing the major scale we have 7 basic chords: C, Dm, Em, F, G, Am, Bdim
The chords are formed by overlapping thirds.
These chords have 3 notes.

Overlapping one more third over these chords, we have: CM7, Dm7, Em7, FM7, G7, Am7, Bm7(b5)
These chords have 4 notes

Overlapping one more third over the 7th chords, we have: CM9, Dm9, Em7(b9), FM9, G9, Am9, Bm7(b5,b9)
These chords have 5 notes.

Overlapping one more third over the 9th chords, we have: CM11, Dm11, Em11(b9), FM9(#11), G11, Am11, Bm11(b5,b9)
These chords have 6 notes

Overlapping one more third over the 11th chords, we have: CM13, Dm13, Em11(b9,b13), FM13(#11), G13, Am11(b13), Bm11(b5,b9,b13)
These chords have 7 notes
