Hozier, Jackie and Wilson Cover Help Options

Hey Gmc community, this is new to me singing and playing and I wish to learn this song. A couple questions I have about this arrangement. The Guitar tone is very crunchy and almost like either an octave pedal is being used or the bass matches the chords. From someone who has experience learning this style of music please give me some tips on breaking this guitar style down and singing.

What type of effects or settings do I need to gain in order to get close to this guitar sound?

This is a very interesting tune. I like the chord progression, the vocal melody and the overall groove. Based on what I can hear and see there, the guitarist is mostly playing power chords, and some major and minor chords with a very interesting right hand rhythm that includes some muted strums in the silences to keep the groove.

About the tone, I think that this sound could be a very soft set of fuzz octave pedal since it sounds close to a fuzz distortion but there is some lower octave sounding there. It could be combined with an overdrive.

Hard to say really. Good song!
Some old school fuzz tones like a real Fuzz Face or a Tone Bender, when the gain is set low but the output high, will put a lot of emphasis on the low end and can even hint at a lower octave ... especially when you roll the volume back on the guitar a bit.
*I don't know if he used a Gretsch 'Jet' on the recording but those guitars are very unique tonally, especially when combined with the right fuzz pedal.

Hey guys thanks! I'll have to do some experiments with my amp and see if I can get it similar. I did find through watching the video it seems he's playing a root 5 power chord with the 5th in bass. Superpower chord? There is access right to the min and maj too. I got a rough idea on the rhythm but singing over top is pretty radical for me...Braaaiiinnn Fart..

yes, I call those kind of power chords "inverted 5th" and use them a lot! I love how much powerful a power chord sounds with the addition of the 5th in the lower string.
