Hi,

To start with:
I'm only learning for (even less) then 2 years and own an Ibanez RG270B.
I use a pod XT and headphones, from time to time I use my Alesis studio monitors,
I don't want the rest of my house and neighbours to "enjoy" my "effort". smile.gif
And am in need of an other guitar.

I mainly like Funky licks, Funk strumming, Talking-Heads-Style stuff, ... some BritPop and rock&roll from time to time.
If I have a weak moment and want to play heavy I still have my Ibanez wink.gif

I currently have a Mexican '52 reissue Telecaster ( rewired )
and a Stratocaster, build as follows : squier body medio '90s, Warmoth Birdseye maple neck with rosewood fretboard, Kluson tuners, 2 fender vintage '64 pickups and a Seymour Duncan distortion trembucker.
Both in test.

I thought of buying a standard American Telecaster but ended up loving a Baja Telecaster at some shop.
I had the impression it was far more funky then the standard AM Tele and waaay more funky then the '52.
The strat is a rather nice guitar too, very versatile.

Any advice is welcome.

Cheers,

-Jean

It was very funky! It wasplugged into a Tube Amp so I cannot really compare to the '52 I have
here. But it was far more funky then then the standard AM & Thinline F-hole and some others.
But the shop was not my style. 20 % more expensive then buying online and 15 % more then most other shops
+ i don't trust them. They have a reputation wink.gif
Is buying one online an option ? I've read several opinions. Imho a valid argument could be all guitars are different
even within the same type and series. Wood, glue, ... quality check .... humans ... wink.gif So one should play it before buying ?

Cheers,

-Jean

Strat is better for funk imo, but hey Tele has the sound Strat doesn't have. It can be used for funk easily. Good luck! smile.gif

hmmm, strat or tele? very personal question smile.gif

I think you should trust your insticts and pick a guitar you like the most, just spend enough time with each guitar and you will just know which one to buy smile.gif

Hey. I'm just gonna insert a stupid question here:
What's the difference between an "ordinary" tele and a baja?
I know it's probably a lot but please explain it. Is the baja a budget version or what's it all about.
I'd like to know since I'm planning on getting a tele in the near future.

I'm far too novice to explain all the diffs bewteen a standard Tele and a Baja. The more I read about tele's
the less I know. As with most things wink.gif .
Imho it is a mexican made Tele with a different neck, other pickups and switch.

From the Fender site:
"a customized '50s-style Telecaster guitar, designed by Master Builder Chris Fleming.
Special features include a soft V-shaped neck, custom pickups with four-way switching,
knurled chrome knobs and "Custom Shop Designed" neckplate."
Next to the 4 switching it has an S1 too. But afaik, an AM deluxe tele has one too.

The one I played sounded amazing and I could appreciate the neck too.
Mine is ordered and should, with some luck and good weather, arrive this week.

I just picked up a Baja Tele last week, and I LOVE THAT GUITAR! I prefer the bite of a Telecaster over a Strat, and it also feels smaller to mee. Playing it throug a Line 6 Pocket Pod with headset to not upset the wife. Have just picked up guitar playing again after beeing away from it for 14 years!

Mine just came in via postal services. Brand new. She sounds great.
There's a lot more space between the strings and the fretboard then on my strat & Ibanez.
I've tried to lower the strings a bit, adjusting the saddles. But I had to do a rollback as the strings rattlle if I do.
The guitar could do with some extra grounding too. I've never opened up a guitar so I leave it like that for now.
