How To Use Scales In The Real World |

Scales (diatonic ones, with 7 notes, like major, minor and modes) are base for chord progressions,
each scale or mode offers you 7 chords which you can use in progression. In other words, scale will tell you progression OR progression will tell you scale. So you need some extra theory knowledge here, knowledge of keys to be precise. And do not be confused by pentatonic scales tho, they are not "real" scales like the ones I mentioned before cause per example minor pentatonic is just 5 notes out of 7 from minor scale, same thing happens with major pentatonic, it's 5 notes out of 7 from major scale. Perhaps you might wanna give me a progression you have? That way I could tell you which scale (or scales) to use and explain it why.

Pentatonic scales have 5 notes and they are different than diatonic scales (Myxolydian is one of them) that have 7 notes.
If you want to learn how to improvise, the essential thing is to learn the diatonic pattern over the neck, and learn where the modes are.
