Heh, I appreciate it, but I think Charlie Robbins has a slight edge over me - if not a big one. It's an interesting style and it sounds very fresh and unique to me.

He's got serious chops that flow from Classical to Jazz and then to Rock/Metal. It's a very unique style of play and very fresh. I like his work quite a bit. Many thanks for turning us on to him!

That said, I'm still a fan of more traditional works as well. I like new sounds, but I like familiar sounds too smile.gif What he is doing is traditional in a sense that it draws from a very long tradition of Jazz/Classical guitar, it's just not traditional in terms of say, "Prog Metal" which is tricky because part of prog is being progressive and adding new things. Or at least, that was part of prog. Prog has become defined, to a degree, much like "Black Metal" by some of the bigger bands in the genre. For example, Dream Theater helped define what "Prog" means to many folks the same way Marduk helped define extreme metal. Genres that start out as a rebellion against traditional structures, eventually, become traditional themselves. Ironic.

Yeah, I agree. I like what I call "traditional prog metal" more in general, rather than the djent scene, but there are usually some good to be found in many different genres. Sometimes my own sound and way of playing will wander to a more djent-y style, but I generally prefer the prog sound of the late 80's and early 90's.
