For me it would be between "Somewhere around 100 people and Small onstage conctert, talent show."
Yet to find out, but I will very soon!
For me I am fine until about 200 people, then I get nervous. But if my dad comes in and asks me to play something I get nervous. I think its because I care more about my dads opinion.
Hmm if it's people I know than 15+ are enough to get me nervous
but if it's a crowd than 200+ and I get stage fright
I dont really get nervous anymore. I used to get sooo freakin nervous that I could barely stand, but after a few gigs I'm not nervous anymore. Though, I have only played for about ~600 people, I'll probably die if its thousands.
It depends on who the people are....if i know that 1000 people in the club have no idea what guitar is than i don't get nervous. If i know there will be like 400 other guitarists than i get quite nervous.
Doing things in front of other people doesnt really bother me anymore, although it definatly used to. With guitar I realize that usually the people watching are not looking for reasons to dislike but are thinking how cool it would be to be the one on stage
if you get nervous, try this mental trick. Imagine everyone in the audience is naked. you will break out laughing, and the nervousness will go away.
however never do this if the room is full of people over 50. you could end up emotionally scarred.
You should have put dad..
Thats the ONLY person that I cant play infront of without like.. wetting myself.
I get nervous around a small group of people like 10+ that know I can play but haven't seen me just out of curiousity, or if they know me really well, if I playing in front of 2 or 3 of my best mates, I just do whatever.
Done shows for up to 1300-1500 people without any stage fright. A wireless mic and a huge mosh pit helped too! =D
Not great image quality or a huge show but :
I dont get that nervous, as long as i get to play im happy. Of course, i havent played anything like, Rock In Rio or something with 300,000 - 700,000 people, that would be a different experiece i would imagine.
Well my breaking point isn't a huge crowd , played infront 1000+ many times..Yes I get a little nervous before that big gig but that helps me get even more concetrated on my playing..Though one thing that gets me realy nervous is playing competition gigs where every note and move matters...But you get through it one way or the other...After few gigs you became addicted to adrenalin and rush it makes for you...so the bigger crowd the better!!!
I always get little nervous before shows. WHen I played shows in front of 1500+ people I was very nervous every time but in a positive kind of way. (as my former economy proffesor used to say - small anxioty before the test\show is good just as a small inflation is) I just can help it. It doesen`t matter for me if they are all musicians or just "ordinary" people I think i maybe even play beter when musicians are around.
Ye, I have noticed too that I get a lot more nervous playing infront of a family member than somebody I have never even met.
I get nervous even when my dog is looking at me, I just dont know what to play.
i ahve played to over a few hundred people and i just dont get nervous anymore. at my first gig however (about 60 people in the room) i was so nervous i started to drink (NOT a good idea) luckilly for me the adrenalin was cancelling out the alcohol so it was fine.
I can play infront of hundreds of people without getting nervous, even if its just me and an acoustic guitar onstage, yet i cant stand up and speak publicly infront of anyone... weird
I tend to be too busy concentrating on playing and the smoke and stuff than i do on the crowed. Sometimes when you first step out and all you can see is the people you get nervous but after that its just play. I think i like it better when the people have come to see you play rather than people who are sorta forced to watch you play. I always get mixed feelings but i tend to get nervous only infront of people i care about or really big crowds. + 1000
Good poll , if playing in a band with a group of band members then i guess even with thousands or millions of people it won't be that bad and nerve racking as playing by yourself
That depends on the sutiation, I really can't answer that. It depends on who the listeners are, but mostly their expectations. I (think I) could play for millions of people who were just "people", but one person that's close of that I admire of whatever would be enough to break me. Sorry that I can't answer the poll, but this is my answer
I forgot to post that I sometimes get more nervoused in front of one person (whatever it may be) than in front of many people because it is more personal to play for one person only than a bunch of people.
To me It's not how many people watching me.It's how much I 've prepared for the concert or whatever.
our band plays shows with high energy... and high alcohol consumption.. usually by the time we play everyone is smashed... including myself. I usually have the five minutes before we go onstage to get nervous then as soon as the first note is played im ready to go!
i really don't get nervous playing in front of people, but when i am playing by myself and my dad walks in, i start screwing up. But if my dad is in a crowd of like 300 or more, i am fine, i can play perfectly. I just usually am relaxed because all im thinking about is the music, and then i can play
Do any of our instructors get nervous - when thinking that thousands web surfers will see their videos?
I do!
I don't get nervous no mather how much people there are, as long as there aren't only a few people who are gonna check how good I am or whatever. I have played before 3000 people and I enjoyed it fully out and I didn't get anything nearby nervous, but when I played before my guitar teacher the first time for example, I was shaking so I almost fell of the chair.
If I know that I can play it well then I'm not afraid at all... Well... My biggest audience is abouts 100 ppl.. and that was in school.. and the song was very(!) easy...
I get nervous even in front of a few friends.God, I wish I could get over it. The only few times I have never gotten nervous was at my mom's wedding and at church. This largest group i ever played in front of was about 500+, And I top of that I wasnt playing guitar, I was playing trumpet. When I get nervous I start shaking, and you can just guess what it sounded like playing trumpet with you head shaking... Crazy vibrato lol
Actually, when I record myself on the computer, usually a whole song, I start getting nervous too... I think it's because I don't want to play it over if I mess up.
whoops. i just relized i put the wrong thing. the theartre i just played at haad over 1000 people and i wasn't nervous. it takes live tv and millions to get me nervous. but i doubt i'll ever be playing that big.
Only one person is enough to get me nervous.
Well, sometime no one is needed. The last few measures of a difficult piece when I am shooting for You Tube would get me nervous.
The size of the crowd does not really matter to me.
I get less nervous if I am well prepared.
For me it's a matter of preparation, setting, and whether it's with others or solo.
I try to practice performance pieces with distractions (kids, TV, etc) so I don't get used to playing them in total solitude. If I know a piece well, I'm not so nervous. If it's solo, then there's no way around it; I know that all focus is on me and it can be unnerving.
Usually, a few people are enough to get me nervous. Not anxious, but at least self-conscious about my playing which is not good. Other than that, I haven't really performed in a band yet so I don't know how i'd feel.
However, for my job, I have to give talks in front of small audience (less than 100). At the beginning, I was really scared (esp. when it has to be in english). I solved the problem with medication (it really helped). Fortunately, now I'm used to it, i'm just slightly nervous.
It's not the amount of people that matters. If I play heavy metal in front of a small audience with people who only listen to hip hop, THEN I get nervous But if I ever in the future could play in front of a large audience who really likes the music, then I don't think I would be nervous. ..well maybe a little
i get nervous infront of family.
but i've played at a party, about 40 people and was fine.
i said about 100 because i've played the sax infront of about 100-150 and i was nervous at first. but was fine once i got into it.
