GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Hello - I'm Back On Gmc

Posted by: Manu RASSE Jun 14 2023, 06:15 PM

Hello

After 8 months break guitar, I'm back.

To begin, I chose the lesson I published 8 years ago : Alternate Picking Workout 2 by Darius.
I saw Gert1973's thread and I thought yeah! That lesson was great.

My hand is a bit numb but I thought the restart would be more difficult.
You don't see it, but I'm focused on my thumb and my finger left hand, it's long.....
Very long to correct this point, but it will come....

10 days of practice

Old lesson 8 old here

Hi Manu!

Great to see you back. smile.gif

Your take is awesome!!!
I love the fact that you took care about details and you did not forget about the reverted picking direction from the second part of the lesson.

You already play this lesson in a good way, but if you want to improve the playing more, take care of these tiny details:
- 0:41; 0:44; 0:47 - vibrate these notes. The last two notes from each sequence should be played with vibrato.
- 0:39 - 0:48 - on this particular part, try to keep your pinky finger closer to the guitar. As you saw, I pointed out the same thing to Gert.

Overall, your take sounds really good!!! Awesome work!!! smile.gif

Hi Monica

Thank you for feedback

I had not paid attention to the 2nd note in vibrato.

I try to adopt a blues position by putting my thumb over the neck to keep my fingers tight.
Darius often said that I had a jazz position that restrained me.
Playing slowly it works well. When I play at full speed, positioning efforts disappear.

I will focus on this point.

Hi Manu,

I looked at your takes and they sound great! As you can notice, I'm by far not as skilled as you are wink.gif

Nice to hear you spotted my thread and it gave you the inspiration to pick up this lesson again.

Hope you're elbow and right forearm issues will heal fast...

Cheers,
Gert

Hi Gert

Thank you for your message of support.
you are Belgian - Are you Walloon or Flemish?

You're going to progress, I see you spend a lot of time on your guitar, it's great.
Beyond the lessons, it is important to do exercises every day in order to gain in economy of movement.

Happy Sunday

Hello again Manu,

Yes, I am Belgian and I live on the Flemish side of it wink.gif

And where do you live in France?

I started playing guitar 8 months ago and I am determined to learn it. 3 or 4 days a week I practise around 4 hour every day. On days I need to work, I play guitar for about 1 hour. And after 8 months, I can see and feel my progress. And that's a good feeling. And I thank Monica for the support and guidance. She's the reason I'm still here on GMC wink.gif

Take care and will follow your takes here on GMC!

Greetz,
Gert

Hello Manu,

My mother language is Flemish but I also do speak French. Although very terrible in writing French laugh.gif

How is it going with the pain in your arm? And was it caused of playing guitar?

Have a good sunday!

Hi Gert

It is a combination of things.
Works in the house for 2 years.... Intensive gardening and poor guitar posture.
Today, I'm paying attention, I still have some pain in my right elbow but it's random.

Have you seen the post https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=63543 ?
I made a tab to learn it. I encourage you to work on this exercise and submit a video if you are motivated.
Speed is not important 30/40/50 bpm, do as you feel.

Hello Manu,

For warm up, I play major C scale in every position and also the caged system.

But this piece looks interesting! I will definately have a try when I have some spare time to prctise it and I will post a video after...

Thanks for this recommendation!

Cheers,
Gert

Great to see you back, Manu. I've been really quiet lately (life) but still practicing and checking in. Darius is such a great player. His right hand is so relaxed and on point and his compositions are fantastic. I've been practicing this one for well over a year:

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Speed-Runs-For-Intermediates/?part=main

I am still not at full speed but I know someday I will post my take, 90% there. I am making sure I get the proper technique down. It's an exercise I play almost every day. I bet you would nail it. smile.gifsmile.gif

Very cool lesson. I have some work to improve it.
I should make a video soon to show my work.

Show me your work if you want. What is the problem about this lesson for you ?

Hi Manu,

Ah, that explains why I can not open it laugh.gif

I don't have guitar pro 6 or any other 'musical' software to open this. I thought it was just going to be a pdf file or something similar biggrin.gif

Hi Gert,

Try downloading TuxGuitar software. It's Opensource (FREE!) & can load Guitar Pro files. It's not as good, of course, but you get what you pay for. wink.gif And it does work fairly well & can be a helpful tool on your practice journey.

Thanks for this tip! I have succesfully downloaded and installed Tuxguitar on my iMAC. For ones no issues with downloading and installing musical software for Apple products laugh.gif

Hi there

Her I share my work on Guthrie Govan Style Arpeggios : https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Guthrie-Govan-Style-Arpeggios/?part=main

I think to post my take on REC section next week-end.
I need one week to improve it or more...Wait and see....

Here my work on 10/25 Jazz Fuison Licks : https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/25-Jazz-Fusion-Licks/?part=main

I saw this video on the web 10 years ago,
it led me to GMC and I decided to sign up.
It's a great lesson and I've been a fan of Stéphane LUCARELLI since that day.
I work on this lesson a few months a year because it is very difficult and I need breaks to pick it up later.
Today I decided to activate the work at 100% on the 10 licks
There is still a lot of work to do, but I have made progress in recent years.

Hi Manu!

Your approach to Guthrie Govan Style Arpeggios sounds really awesome!!! Great work!!! smile.gif

The second take (Jazz Fusion Licks) - I think you are going in a good direction. It's definitely a hard lesson which has a lot of details.
Be careful at the type of the bends (for example, the first bend 0:06).

BTW, we can't see your first take (7 years ago) for this lesson because the video is set as private. biggrin.gif

Have a great evening!

Hi Monica

I have difficulty reaching the same pitch as Stéphane
I play at the same time as him to remedy this problem.

There are other errors but this one will require more work,
This lesson requires great flexibility as there are a lot of licks that require incredible finger spread.

Hi there.

I made 3 vid this afternoon to see the evolution of my thumb technique.
These are one shots there are errors but I wanted to share them with you.
I'm at a time of year where I'm losing my nails, it's very annoying for hybrid picking.....
For 10 years, always at the end of summer but don't worry...they end up growing back...

These are my 3 favorite lessons right now.

HOT COUNTRY LICKS at 140 BPM, Goal for me 120 BPM...
140 is just crazy fast....I would need 3 times as long and that's not possible with my job

NEOCLASSICAL ETUDE 1
I'm trying to improve the visual, because the one I posted shows forearm movements that are too broad and rigid

MODAL MADNESS 2 STRING PATTERN
I'm thinking of submitting it to the REC SECTION when I'm ready.... There's no fire...I have time

Have a nice day

Hi Manu!

Awesome videos and great lesson choices!!! smile.gif

It's obvious that you work hard and the progress is visible in your playing. Great work!!!

As you said, Modal Madness 2 needs more work if you want to post this in the REC section. But...because you already know where the issues are, I will not point them out.

I have just one single piece of advice. If you want to improve your thumb joint movement, just analyze once again the movement of the thumb finger at a slower tempo.
Kris made a great explanation in this lesson (vid no 2):
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/How-To-Practice-Alternate-Picking/?part=2

Have a great evening!
