Original lesson: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Nightwish-style2/

Wanted to do this lesson in between practicing vibrato. I actually play in symphonic metal band (link in bellow..*nudge, *wink) right now, so wanted to see where I measure up with that. Also the pinch harmonic was kind of weak in that take.

Hey there!

This lesson is reasonably simple but it still requires some attention in details.

First things to notice are chord shifts - they are not solid. You take your hand away too fast and let some random notes ring between chords.

At 0:10 there is wrong rhythm applied - you should change the chord in front of the actual bar it's spotted in.

0:12 - this vibrato doesn't bring anything cool - not in this form. Originally it was a straight note. They way you try to vibrate it makes it sound a little out of tune.

When you play the beginning, you should freely throw your wrist (strumming downwards). Motion doesn't have to be wide but you should not rest your hand at any point.

0:20 - Youo miss the concept of delayed chord shifts - try to play slowly with slow parts or with guitar pro file. You'll notice you are doign it wrong (also there should be no slides - sometimes we use teh same finger to fret next note, but we do not let the slide to be audible)

Pinch harmonics - these little bastards tend to go off everytime you "try too hard" smile.gif Familiar issue.

In the solo part - everytime you hit c note (A5 3rd fret) it should be a bend ornament - not a vibrato.

These are things that missmatch original lesson. Most of them are rather a case of trying to do fast draft of the lesson instead of careful analysis (everything is tehre in the slow vids and tabs). In general overall performance is not bad and the tone seems to firt just fine smile.gif

0:27 - You should use pinky, middle and index instead of index only. Every unnecessary slide can deliver unnecessary noise.

Hi Icetrhone!

Besides Darius comments, I would like to add that your vibrato technique definitely needs some specific work. These are some essential tips about it:

- It should start from your wrist (avoid fingers movement)
- Let the note sound and then add vibrato gradually.
- Try to make vibrato rhythm connect with the backing track groove.
- Practice until you can control it and make it sound consistent.

I think that it would be good to work on some other vibrato lessons:

That's all by now!

You have got a cool beefy tone here!

You have already received several good pointers already that should give you plenty to focus on. I also think many of the suggestions we have given you before still apply.

I would like to see your right hand more relaxed, and also see you keep a solid pulse throughout so that it does not feel as shaky when you move between sections.

I do however believe you already have the skill to play this much better than you did in this take. For example I can see at 00:28 that you are distracted (double checking recording I assume). This is understandable, I know there are a lot things to think about when shooting video and audio simultaneously. However if you could totally devote yourself to the actual playing I am pretty sure this would translate to a much better take, even without much more practicing.

Part of the secret is to prep yourself for a good performance - and this is valid both on stage and in the home studio. This is the reason why many pro artists have weird rituals before performing - they have learned exactly how to get into the right mindset to be able truly rock away.

I am sure you could do the same with some work. Perhaps you can recall some practice session when you were really inspired. What did you do differently? How can you recreate that sessions' magic while also recording yourself?

Keep it up - you get a 6 from me.
